GU sub tank in GQ?

Post by 1patrol »

Hey guys i have a GQ LWB with gas and the long range tank has a leak. no one will touch the tank unless i take it out and drop off. Anyway looking at a GU sub tank to whack in instead, does anyone know if they fit? Appreciate any help :)

Looking under them, my 93 GQ has none of the mounting points on the chassis which the GU has for the sub tank.

Only issue you might have is body clearance. The GU's body sits a bit higher than the GQ's (more of a floor ridge if you get what i mean).

Other than that theres not many reasons it wont fit. But is it worth it?

Cheers buddy and its only $60 compared to maybe a grand for a new long range or 5-600 for a 2nd handy.

just curious? what brand is it?
I had a weeping leak out of a "long ranger" that I had bought new many years ago. ended up pulling it out and doing it the proper way!
Rinsing well, soapy mixture x 2. then a mate welded up fracture.
it was a vertical stress fracture from an inside baffle weld??
half way along left rear section
PITA, but at least it's fixed properly now!
cheers

Hi mate ,I looked at doing the same thing had the GU tank sub tank at home , tried to fit it but mounting points were not the same and had to lower it to far down to clear the body,no body lift on mine might be all right if you have a body lift in ,cause the GU body is slightly higher in that spot, so I ended up buying a sub tank from RPM tanks of EBAY for $500 brand new plus $70 del. from SA, works great ,bit of a tight fit and holds 72lts, good when your running a V8 in it

JWB no idea on brand and i would fix if i had other transport but its just not possible to do in 1 day (sundays off) but yeh if it were possible would love to repairs. Its leaking from behind the bracket that mounts it at the front of the tank so the bracket will have to come off etc.

Smurf thanks for the info ill knock that idea on the head cos mine is standard bodylift also. As for the RPM tank i might have to check them out but still have to worry about the rear upper trailing arm hitting the tank. I know you can but the bent ones but when is someone going to start making them at a fair price

The guy I spoke to at RPM Tanks said that they could cut the rear of the tank off for me if I wanted to,said I would lose about 2 - 3 lts only to save buying a bent arm,I just left mine the same and see how I go,I've got a 2" spring lift ,said it might be fine, will have to try full flex and see if it hits
