g'day im about to buy a suzuki vitara 89 model and the engine is on its way out... i considering either buying a new stroked 1.6l to a 1750cc for $1750 and putting a mid cam in it for $250 and gettin extractors for its which are something like 280 or putting a 3.8l vn engine in it, which would i be better off doing?? and roughly how much the 3.8l conversion would cost me

commodore engine would be to heavy for offroad i reckon but it would go hard as i would like to see one with it done probably suit the drag strip better lol

The VL engine will ruin the car, both in terms of driveline damage, and making it a nose heavy turd.
Work the 1.6 for sure...

ahh.....3.8 is a crap motor.....and not legal......put a zook motor in it....plenty to choose from...
lwb 1.6efi,4sp auto,f&r airlockers,dual t/cases.custom coils.builder of ROAD LEGAL custom suzukis...and other stuff.

I agree with both joe and lump too much motor and weight for your 4by

ps 3.8 is vn onwards lump vl is 3.0
85 high roof 1.3, 6.5 tc, air lockers,ruf and 34 swampers. yep its an ugly pos.

if you want pure power, why not look at the 2L vit engine? that said a worked 1.6 EFI would be insanely fast for the weight...
