See that topic at the top of the page that says: "Sticky: *--Sierra Bible--*"?
I suggest clicking on it before you make another topic. It has heaps of interesting info. This thread for example:

Re: lux diffs

Time & $$$$
pretty much everything that is attached to the diffs needs to be changed.
so steering, driveshafts, moving spring mounts on diff(welding perches) brake lines, engineering.
Now, before you go into this, why are you wanting a diff swap(not saying dont do it, just so you know why you are doing it, and its advantages) Also ask yourself SPUA or SPOA.
rear diff offset becomes a problem when doing a hilux swap as their rear centre is in the middle, a much more appropriate diff is from a bundy, pretty much the same as a hilux but with an offset rear for better driveshaft angle.

Actually, I just remembered where I saw a kit...

Hope this clears it up a bit -
Talk to an engineer first though, make sure they will be happy with the swap and the way you intend to do it.
Also, if you can, get a bundera diff for the rear - keeps the tailshaft a lot straighter, but uses hilux brake and diff components.

hey zookkid
there is a hell of a lot of work to be done
im in the middle of doing a lux diff swap on a nt swb
so far this is wat ive done:
striped car down
removed body from chassis
cut front and rear of the chassis out and replace with RHS
cut old mounts off lux diffs
weld on new mounts to rear diff
cut spring hanger mounts of chassis and moved 60mm outwards and 30mm forwards
cut off and relocated front shock hoops
refitted diffs to chassis
refitted body to chassis
i am now in the process of sorting out the steering and refitting all of the engine and boxes and all the interior and doing body mods
before you start to do a conversion like this take a few things into account
1 do i need it
2 can i be without my zook for a long time
3 does the legall side worrie me.
4 is the cost wurth the result ( hell yeah )
hope this helps you

You could just put smaller tyres on you car if you want less ground clearance less breakage and lower centre of gravity.....
sorry, I just don't understand the hilux diff thing, not when doubletoughs are down to $249US or something, as per Pirate a couple of days ago.

I only see it as a viable mod of your going BIG ... and willing to get longs ect to run 37's or larger and you want to really get on the loud pedal.

have you guys ever tried driving in the tracks of somthing like a lux or patrol , its impossible with standard zook diffs , the extra width of the lux diffs alone makes a world of difference. and the cost wise $249us plus freight , my whole build including buying the zook has cost me $1200 AUD now no one can say the cost aint wurth it.I just don't understand the hilux diff thing, not when doubletoughs are down to $249US or something, as per Pirate a couple of days ago.

offset rims do help heaps.
as well as sometimes being a zook and narrower is better not to drive in the same tracks and take a different line.

EPIC FAIL!!!
I believe there are justifications for running Hilux diffs on a Sierra (personally prefer the idea of a Bundera Rear though), But THIS IS NOT A REAL REASON!!!
You dont drive through the tracks of the bigger cars, you drive the completely unique Suzuki line, which allows you avoid the obstacles that the wider trecked vehicles have to overcome. This alone is one of the things that make Suzukis quite capable little vehicle. This is also the reason some people even prefer NT over WT Sierras.
A wide and stable vehicle is not always a better vehicle!
Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.
Everyone has there opinion on this but MY choice was made when a combination of things happened all at once.
Broke front cv
bent front housing
twisted both rear axles.
This happened pretty much one after the other.
Now I had a spare front housing but Id have to pay to get it converted to n/t on w/t spoa + stenghtend.
Buy new front axle and 2 new rears, and still had to get proper high steer.
Now non zuk side I needed to fit up to 4 people + gear into my lwb so I needed a full cage for protection and its all starting to get alot heavier than when it was just me and I broke all the other stuff.
So cheap hilux diffs with about the same $ to fit as buying zuk stuff but lux is alot stronger and more easily available (tried to buy new zuk cv bout 8yrs ago and was told too old they dont make them so 2nd hand junk is the only option)
I was always a zuk only fan but realisticaly when you way up bang for buck the option was easy for me and what I needed.
But a stripped down swb s/t with 2 people (read not girls and all the crap they bring along) could probly survive zuk stuff.
So each to there own just way up what YOU need and suits YOUR budget.
my thoughts anyway Nik

and steve you could just not read this topic and take the rest of your know all mates and stop wasting peoples time with your ever so opinionated anti hilux diff ramblings . is it like a religion to you were you read a topic and feel compelled to intervene and save a suzuki from the dark side ?Gwagensteve wrote:Really?whitey86 wrote: is the cost wurth the result ( hell yeah )
