leaf removal
leaf removal
this has probably been covered before but the search function never works for me.
anyways i am curious to know if this would work.
if i remove the bottom leafs out of all my packs, fit commodore wagon/hilux shocks and extend the bumpstops 50mm will i achieve much more travel?
also i have been told that it is possible to re set springs with by beating them back into shape. i know its rough but so is by 4b. is it possible?
cheers

You need to provide more information, removing leaves will make a stiff spring pack more compliant not necessarily giving more travel. If your springs are already old and sagged requiring you to re-set them then perhaps they are already compliant enough and removing a leaf would be a bad idea and just sag them more. For starters post up some pics of your leaf packs and info about them.

One of the guys at my work did a spring over on a N/T and only used 3 leafs but then went rears up front with ext hangers, rancho adjustable shocks and 34 centerpeds not far off 1mtr of flex mostly drop out though.
He used standard spring packs but not saged. The vehicle isn't a road car though

if they are flat then that is the best setup for flex. If you have heavily arched leaves you get less flex. the flatter they are the better they flex. Could be shock length restricting your flex. have you tried taking your shocks off and testing the flex then. If you have more flex then its your shocks. Also don't drive it without the shocks on, just flex it up on a ramp etcwaandy wrote:yea theyd be pretty old. they are flat. as in there is no radius in them at all.

im suprised no one has mentioned how bad of an idea it is to try reset leaves with a hammer! you can cold reset them by taking them out and curving them for a while, or proper reset at a suspension place, which by the time you've done that you could have just bought new ones for a bit extra that will last a million times longer than a reset pack.
with the shocks - be careful with valving... too soft and you'll suffer a horrible ride, and too stiff you'll be up for a kidney transplant within 6 months.

How I have cold reset springs in the past. (they have lasted quite well to.)
