H/D Auto to go behind a 6 litre in a Truggy

Post by ausyota »

Well my new motor arived for my Lux today a brand spanker L98 6litre gen 4 V8, should put out just under 300kw.
I am also aranging some 404 mog diffs to go under her.
Now Im just wondering what gearbox and transfer I should use.
TH400?
TH700?
Powerglide?
Im thinking full manual valve body will be the go.
From what people have been telling me Im leaning towards a powerglide case.

For the transfer Im thinking an Atlas case, a 4 speed would be nice but I dont think the budget will stretch far enough for that.

Anyone got any good auto tranny shops to talk to?

www.hughesperformance.com in the US look like they do some flash gearboxs if you have a big wallet  which I dont.
Paul.

Well thats definatly a consideration as it wants to as short as possible as the mogs have huge long pinions and I dont want to end up having a limo style wheelbase.

If you use the Atlas with the short AA adapter you'll be fine with the 400 or 700 and anywhere down to about 100". If you use the glide you'll probably find the front shaft will be too short.
you're probably going to have to hack the firewall out to get the motor down behind the front axle. Need to push the motor across to the drivers side to get the pinion to run next to the sump too.

Yeah Im thinking a built up 400 will be the go now.
I found out today that my brother has a couple of chev 400 boxs laying around that I should be able to get cheap.
Now next question anyone know a good auto shop in Perth to get it built and full manual valve body etc fitted?

I was planning on doing this anyway.
Is there going to be any room for my feet if I push the engine over towards the drivers side?
I will see how the diffs look under the Lux and I may end up getting them narrowed a bit which will bring the pinion a bit further across.

Yeah no worries Graham, that would be good.
The finish date of the buildup is a loooonng way off. I work slow and the funds are fast running out :)
