Rediculously high KM's on a diesel motor

I often get in old landcrusisers and hiluxs. landcrusiers almost always have over 350 000 and rust is the only let down runing gear still good and hiluxs with over 350 000 are common again rust the only issue. why would you get anything other than toyota

my 200tdi got to 320 000 before i drowned it.so i got a price to rebuild it $5000 pffff went and bought a v8 110 for $2000 with 200 000 on the clock and i would never touch another diesel again and think about how much smoke a diesel would blow thats done 400 000 especially toyodatsuns

We have a 1984 SD33 MQ wagon on my parents property, which was taken off the road about 3 years ago due to major rust. Cant remember exactly how many km's it has on it, but its definately over 800,000km. Doesn't use oil, and it used to drive pretty well on the road too.
My MK ute had about 320,000km on it. Had no dramas with it either. However, my MK wagon had heart failure early in life (200,000km from memory??) - but that was due to a mechanic forgetting to tighten up the harmonic balancer.
My opinion of diesels/km's etc is as per previous people have said. The bigger capacity (4.2) 6 cylinder jap diesels will last "nearly" forever if you dont abuse them, and keep the fresh oil and filters up to them. Not so sure on the high output 4cyl diesels though.
I've seen many a 2.8D hilux with well over 300,000km on them too.

Nissans are factory fitted with Rattles. DX's have few rattles, TI's have heaps. Thats why they cost more.KiwiBacon wrote:At 400,000km plus, the engine isn't the concern. How is the drivetrain, body, chassis, suspension and interior holding up?
Some vehicles rattle like a can of screws with less than 100,000km on them.

Lock it or dont bother.
I had a LSD in the 80 and ditched it for air lockers and a open diff.
Couldn't tell the difference between the LSD and open diff.
