jumping out of 4wd

Post by moz440 »

hi all, my hj75 is jumping out of 4wd (high or low range)when it comes up against an obstacle , when it has to work hard. it makes a grinding noise like gears arent meshing. it has also done it on very steep down slopes.i moved the transfer stick a tiny bit while it did it and it re engaged. any ideas? is there a detent spring that would control this? moz.

Have you done a body lift?, have seen a couple where not enough metal has been trimmed from the transmission tunnel and it is knocked out of gear as the truck flexes

Two other things have happened to me. Check your engine mounts if they're stuffed they'll move selector when chassis moves. Other one is that stick hits the top of the cab floor and can move it enough to push out of gear.
