plastic buggy panels

Post by Rhett »

I have been deciding whether to go ally panels or plastic on my suzuki. I have ordered a sheet of 3mm poly-somthing- same as they make the tanks out of. My question is how much does this stuff expand with heat? if I pop rivit it on will if go warpy in the sun or do I have to over drill the holes and rubber mount it? The biggest panel would be 500x 700mm

I'll ask my brother tommrow rhett (his a plastic fab)
but my guess at the moment would be is that the plastic will need more heat then the sun could give to warp

polyethylene?

will warp/oilcan if its a large flat surface without support or contouring.

so the more shape it has the less it will warp.

suporting it is no problem. I was more worryed about expansion with the sun making it bukle inbetween mounting points.

lexan/ poly carb same thing. good material tough as guts, but does still warp a bit.

we use it as a clear hull in some kayaks, and in between each bolt the edge does warp, but our bolts are a fair way apart. if they have been well designed i dont think you would have an issue.
