DRIVING LIGHTS 2000 PRADO

Post by smiley »

Hi Guys,

I fitted a set of driving lights to a mate's 2000 model prado on the weekend.

Now, when he turns on the driving lights the stereo shuts off for approx 1 second.

It is a factory stereo.

does anyone have an idea of what might be happening?

P.S does it regardless of wether the engine is running or not

thanks

How did you wire the lights?

Where did you get your earth from?

I took the earth from the bullbar.

switch circuit starts at the highbeam wire at the back of the light, goes to pin 86, from pin 85 into a dash switch then to an earth under the dash

the light circuit starts at the pos terminal, goes through a 20 amp fuse to pin 30, from pin 87 (dual pin 87 relay) to the lights then to the bullbar earth

My dad's prado was doing weird driving light related things when he bought it, after checking everything else, it was fixed by properly crimping and making good earth contacts to the chassis and not the bullbar.

I agree the chassis makes a better earth than the bullbar but I don't think it relates to the stereo shutting off.

I'd suggest it has something to do with where/how you earthed your switch under the dash.
