I have towed my Lux a couple of times with my Ford Territory.
It tows fine, plenty of power, not too heavy on the fuel.
I only have the standard tow hitch so yeah not exactly legal.
I plan on getting a dedicated tow rig/camping bus probably a GQ wagon but untill I do the territory is doing the job.

I tow my hilux with my 80.CWBYUP wrote:How it actually tows no idea personally but have had good reports from customers.
Legal side of it, Expensive to set up as you must have a weight distrubution hitch to get the 2300kg rating.
Nick

I wouldn't tow anything with anything without one of these. Once you have used one you will never tow big weights without one ever again.
Steering is better, brakes are better, handling is better and on top of that the whole setup just feels so much more stable. This setup cost something like $650 but I say that is cheap compared to trying to replace 2 rigs or worse yet a life.

i was looking at this setup for my car trailer. Isnt it a pain to get the arms loaded?Guts wrote:I tow my hilux with my 80.CWBYUP wrote:How it actually tows no idea personally but have had good reports from customers.

I tow my buggy on my very light trailer with my Ford v8 ute with the same load distributing hitch that guts photographed.
It tows very well, but at times you can really feel how light the tow vehicle is. The extra 500kg or more that you'll be pulling will kill the deal.
Im here for the sausage!
i have BF XR6 falcon ute.
It is a tow rig - thats why I have it.
It spends most of its time towing 1500kg, but when i hook on the big trailer its maxed out to 2300 Kg.
I have the 2300kg tow bar fitted to mine - but it doesnt look like the ones above. I do this to them for 150,000k's and dont have any issues.
I have also towed a car trailer with my hilux on it for about 800km's.
The barra engine has good torque so it does it pretty easy.
If your prepared to slow down a bit (legally you should anyway) the fuel usage is pretty good. But if you make it do what its told up hills you can down fuel almost a quick as you can fill it.
I got about 360 ish k's off about 65-70 L at 1500kg with a load thats far higher wind resistance than a car. but I wanted to get home and wasnt holding back as much as I could have.
It would get upto 450k out of the same tank if your happy to plod.
as for power it will do what ever speed you want up 99% of hills, but you will be killing the car.
Reliability - everyone who does what i do in my industry uses these cars, cause they dont seem to care.
NOTE - THE MANUAL IS ONLY RATED to 1600kg.
NOTE - THE TURBO IS ONLY RATED TO 1200kg.
so v8 or s6 in an auto is what you need.
