sierra drum to dask conversion

i have a 95 model sierra and the handbrake works off the rear drums not the transfer what calipers can i use for conversion

Easier to attach a transfer drum handbrake
But they don't work nowhere near as good as disc caliper actuated handbrakes

Some people have custom set ups with go kart disc and caliper mounted to the transfer

same here ... i got a new theory that my cable has stretched ... is that plausible

same here ... i got a new theory that my cable has stretched ... is that plausible

Maybe but you should be able to adjust the stretch out
If it has stretched beyond that point it is likely ready to break
Check that the shoes in the drum haven't worn down
There is an adjuster for the shoes on the drum, stick a screwdriver in the hole and turn the thingo in there to wind the shoes out (cant remember which direction to turn it)

Mine had stretched and wasn't working so when I went to LWB I got the new cable made 300mm longer and the sheath 310mm longer so effectively shortened the cable 10mm.
Works great now IF I have rear brake shoes.. Bloody mud

yeah its got new pads and i adjust it .... just doesn't seem to bite that good

stupid question but is there a bedding in procedure for the shoes. brakes tend not to bite all that good until bedded in. Maybe go for a drive and pull the handbrake on till just before lockup. Do that three times at increasing speed is the general procedure for bedding in brakes IIRC.

yeah done that i think its just the typical transfer case handbrake

In my opinion just do the Sierra front caliper on the back swap and run the transfer drum brake. Swap the front brakes to Vitara while your at it. Easiest way and all wrecking yard components. The drum handbrake is ok in most situations but if you want to get adventurous you can always go the aftermarket disc brake or even make something yourself.
