2h wont turn over,suggestions please

Post by richardsc »

ok this is a continuation of the is my 2h seized thread, but we have worked out that it rolls in gear with out locking up,so the thinking is electrical as well as fuel, any ways today i got a new starter motor to see if it was that ,as i cooked the wire trying to restart my truck, any ways that didnt help, new one bolted in,same result click.

i tried hooking jumper leads to the posative terminal on the starter, the negative on the battery and up to my fj 60,just got the click, any suggestions why it doesnt want to turn over or even attempt to start, ive tried with a battery that brand new,it fires up the 350 chev in my hj 45,1 other thing, the charge light on the dash isnt coming on when i turn ignition over

any advice greatly appreciated

would say the same as xxxhilux

the earths have been fried when you melted the wiring.

Check your earth wires, perhaps just replace them to be sure.

on the starter, the wire that got smokey was the main wire thats a part of the 2 seperate parts of the starter, the other 2 wires seem fine,no burning, did u mean the earth of the starter?

easyest thing to check if its an earth run jumper cable from negavtive on battery to engine block then try crank it over if that dosent work run a cable form the posative on battery to positive on starter moter.

might be a silly question, but what if there is an immobiliser somwhere in there. old system thatr stopped woprking but now has come back to life...

Had this happen on another car once. thought the fuel pump was dead got a new one and had the same result. eventually found an immobilser under the dash and bypassed it.

often the cheapo immobilisers cut power to the starter.

just a thought.

coulbe a starter i guess,i replaced it with one from the wreckers though, but yeah that doesnt rule out it being dodgey to,so theres always that possability, waiting for him to come back to see where we go next with this, will pull the starter and return it to wreckers to,its the only 2 h one they had so will try the other wreckers to,is it possable the glow plug relay is buggered?or would it still try to kick over

did you try this?
I had a 'sort of' similar problem when I first got my BJ- took a while to iron out all the problems.
Battery was near dead- replaced with 700CCA,
starter was problematic- opened it up and it was a mess- got rebuilt-
then after all this it still wouldn't turn over properly (way too slow), and would only start if I jumped it at the same time with another running car.
After a while of testing with a multimeter- a jumper from the block to the chassis confirmed (by the engine turning over at top speed and starting no problem) that the earth from the engine to the chassis was bad.
I replaced that and problem solved.

Good luck-
