Selling my maverick and went to get a RWC for it.
The guy said that it's not road worthy with 33's on it, "they're too big"

Thoughts? You're pushing sh!t a long way up hill if you think you'll get around this. If you were planning to keep the vehicle it might be worth investigating the engineering side of it, or waiting for the NCOP to be adopted (but don't hold your breath!) But, since you're selling, you want to get out of this as cheap as possible.
Personally, I would ask around a few local tyre stores - explain the issue, that you just want a RWC, see if anybody will do a swap for you. Swap your 33s for something which will pass a RWC. If your 33s are good it should be easy to arrange.

If they're stamped 33x...... then they are probably illegal, but if they're stamped 285/75/16, then it should be all good.
I run 33 x 12.50 x 15's. Never had any issues, but I haven't tried to sell it before. Maybe try another place for RWC, some guys are fussier than others.

Check the manufactures specs on diametre if in Qld, basic law is +15mm to -26mm. Standard tyre is a 7.50 16 which measures 815mm, most 33" tyres measure 830mm which is leagal.
You will need the manufacturers tyre size handbook/flyer that shows the diameters to back it up, also the qld modifications flyer that states the sizes.

anyone know how long the 'grace' period is that the workshop is liable??? Its pretty fawkt for the workshop owner to have any responsibility since as soon as the bloke drives out after the roady, he could do a burnout down to the rims.
road worthy AND engineers reports are only valid for 28 days. thats why you will find a lot of workshops and engineers taking heaps of photos of said vehicles. that way if they get pulled up on it they have proof. usually workshops will take pics without telling you.

if you don't submit it to vic roads within that period you will have to pay the full amount of the engineers bill again. i've been pulled over once a couple of years after the report was issued and as long as what is on the report matches what they vehicle has you will be fine, if they detect otherwise they can make you go for another one.

I have heard through a tyre fitter I know that 285/75/16's are oversize for my 80 series so I would guess they would also be oversize for a GQ as well. I haven't had any issues though however I can see where the mechanic providing the RWC is coming from. His RWC license is worth a lot to his income so he's understandably not willing to risk that by doing the wrong thing and that's fair enough. A mechanic mate of mine takes a picture of every car he does a RW on to prove it had the right wheels on it.
Solution?? What you need to do is buy a set of road legal standard sized wheels and tyres and get the RWC with them fitted. Then sell the car to the new buyer with the legal tyres fitted and the 33's in the back (good idea to take a picture of it to prove it). Then you are covered and so is the mechanic that provided the RWC.

yep, they should have a copy, you have a copy and the engineer will have a copy. i'm pretty sure on thier computer system it will have a reference to your report number when they bring up your details.bogged wrote:Cheers mate.. The largest diameter tyre a GQ patrol came out of the factory with was a 235/85/16. That gives it an overall height of 31 3/4 inches or 806 mm.
Given that you are only allowed to increase tyre size by 15 mm a 33 inch tyre is too tall.
