Blue Smoke...

Post by AHF01U »

I own a 2.8 lux and under load she blowing a little blue smoke.
I don't flog her and i try to keep her regularly serviced. I am rather limited with my mechanical knowledge but i am assuming its oil. Could this mean the rings need replacing or something else? I would like to avoid a rebuild as apprentice wages aren't enough to cover those costs.
Any help would be great thanks.
Andrew.

hey ferrit,
rather embarrising but a mate of mine who had the same engine gave me all his oil that he had left over when he sold his car and me being the tight arse that i am just filled up with that.
the fact that it's designed for detroit diesel 2 stroke engines may be one problem. it's fuchs titan.
the other problem may be that it's not multigrade.
new oil tommorrow, after the cup of course.
think i'll go for 20-50 as it's warming up a bit.
hopefully fixes the problem.

yeah, a two stroke oil isnt really suitable for a 4 stroke engine, and a monograde will work its way past the rings.

I used to run either Penrite HPR Diesel or Delo 400 in my 2.8D and with 340,000kms on the clock it never blew any blue smoke or used a drop of oil.
