Hi guys.
Just wondering if anyone has ever had trouble with the main fuel pump in their 80 series?.
I have a 95 petrol, been running like crap the last few weeks, so I took it to our local Toyota dealer.
They did some tests and so on, their reason was that it has low fuel pressure, and that there is an internal fault with some parts in the pump.
They have deiced that I need a new pump for the beast, and at a cost of $550+ I just really want to make sure that is the drama.

to test it you need a fuel pressure gauge to check that it is at the correct pressure
check for crimped lines or blocked filters also old rubber hoses sometimes a flap of rubber inside the hose can restrict fuel flow
the other thing that needs doing is to check you have full voltage at the pump connector while it is running by probing the back of the connector
unplugging it and checking voltage will not show up a bad earth or high resistance contact
you should be able to do much better $ for a fuel pump

This is 100% correct, around $180 and in stock, will probably take you an hour to replace including pulling the rear seats out.dow50r wrote:Dude, repco sell them for $180 and you would quite easily change it out...with a 14mm socket for the seats and a phillips head for the tank...no smoking when doing it thou

I took your advice, rang around the auto joints we have here,
Toyota wanted $580 +gst, other 2 places I tried were between $160 & $190.
Went to Repco and got it for $128, whacked it in and now the Toyo goes like a shower of shit.
Took Toyota 3 visits @ $240 per visit to work out that it was low fuel pressure causing my drama's then they wanted to sting me over $700 to fix it. More fool me for going back there the second time I guess.
No wonder many owners find alternative options to keep their pride & joys running.
