the advantages of LPG is that it is cheap to buy, and if tuned right, uses SFA more than you would on petrol. one well tuned setup i have known got 15L/100k's city driving in a 40 series with a 4 speed. 4.11: diffs, and 31's.

The 2f runs well on the stuff. It also will run upside down etc, no angle issues like carbies or dare i say it... diesels :D (to clarify that, i have been on a couple of trips with Diesel 60 series, or diesel 40's that have sucked air from the tank on extreme angles if the tank isn't 1/2 full).

Again, tuned right they also push out more midrange torque than their petrol counterparts.

they require slightly more maintanence than a petty 2f (only because you occasionally have to de-gum the converter or it can start becoming hard to start)... by occasionally i mean every 5 years or so.

the biggest disadvantage to them is range and Outback availability. i have never ran into a problem with a 90 L tank for long weekend trips, but i wouldn't attempt crossing the simpson with it. availability is fine in most places (country Vic/NSW/QLD/WA/SA will have a servo in range), but again, long distance touring, like the Cape or canning would be a struggle.

the biggest advantage of diesel is when touring. for every 5L you carry, you get more range. plain and simple. they are slower onroad, lack some oomf offroad (my diesel 40 never got out of lowrange in the sand at robe, my LPG 40 hardly saw lowrange). and more expensive to run/service.

a well running 2f is about 300 bucks (sometimes less). that's about what? 3 injectors for a 2h?

Seems like there isnt as much gap as i thought between diesel and lpg .
Do the 2 f or 3f motors require headwork before lpg ?
Do the early 60 series have to use that upper cylinder lubricant ? If they were originaly leaded
Range shouldnt be a real problem 300 ks is heaps around bris and if i have a dual fuel then not much of an issue at all

I've got a leaded 3F dont run any upper cylinder head lube, and it runs fine, just need to keep the mixtures right and the valves adjusted. Realistically if it doesnt have hardened valve seats just run it till the head needs a rebuild then put them in.

my old man has a fj62 with a 3f runnning on gas never had any troubles at all, motor is un opened since new, sets the valves as needed and just keeps on rolling.
84 FJ60, SOA , 35's, 5ltr V8, Straight Gas. 80's coils in the making.

ran my 2f on gas for 5 years, and it had been running on gas for at least 10 years before that (probably longer) according to the gas inspection stampings.

ended up pulling the motor because i was bored with it... gas hadn't killed it yet.
