MQ/GQ and the deals in WA

Post by Shark »

Hey guys, been away from the site for some time now and on the verge of selling the current ride and entering the patrol market once again..

So far i have owned two Mq's both SD33's 4spd's and one maverick SWB 4.2 petrol. I do not want petrol, will possibly consider a pertrol gas but i really want a turbo diesel and second to that a straight diesel.

To be perfectly honest i loved my Mq's, only got rid of one because it was full of rust and the other as i needed some money for a deposit for a house.. I have never owned a turbo diesel but driven a couple and have been impressed even with such a basic vehicle..

Now the drama is the vehicle will have to be financed and im looking at a minimum of 7k but a max of 10k. I am leaning towards an MQ turbo diesel unless you guys think it would be a silly investmant. I plan of keeping it fairly stock at this stage till the bulk of the loan has been paid off..

I went and had a look at this one today

First thought was a very tidy MQ indeed but knowing where these babies rust and the dealer telling me there was none except for a 5c piece size on the guard i had a challange i knew i could win. There was rust in the radiator support panels, 2 spots the size of a 20c piece in the top of the firewall. I think its where the rear seatbelts go, one side only and a semidecent patch on the sill under the rear passenger door.. Apart from that the vehicle seemed to be in pretty good shape. Was dissapointed to see some overspray on the inside of a wheel arch so i dont know whats been repaired and what hasnt.
Interior was pretty good, well good really for the age of the vehicle. All in all i thought it was an okay car.... just not for the money..

Sorry there were a couple of other things i noticed, needed a new radiator and the rear main was leaking, offered him 8k if he fixed both those items, he seemed keen and while he was getting something i noticed the sill rust and decided to go home and have a think.....

Is it time i stopped thinking about mq's and go on to Gq's. I just wanna know what people think, remember that i will more than likely have to buy from a dealer. So to be honest thats the only mq i have ever seen over 7k..

I would not even consider an MQ, I would get a personal loan and buy a GQ from a private sale.

There have been some nice GQ's goin in your price range lately.

Are you after a LWB specifically?

one word....... YES !

Should be able to grab a MQ/MK LWB for under the $3K mark, remember they are now old so you MUST expect work WILL be needed in most areas.

The GQ range is now well within the "afordable budget" of most ppl

go for a GQ dude, grab the quokka and get calling. There are heaps of nicely set up GQ's for 10k and under, every week. the car yards are good to see what you are getting and to drive a few and get familiar with dfiffernt vehciles but private is so much cheaper.

Cheers

7k for a mq  , for that price it would want to be showroom condition or have every thing that opened and shut and still be in perfect condition.
Brother bought a na 4.2 deisel gq for 7k with a brand new set of 33 bfg a/t was pov pack but is in realy good nick.
Best think is to just look around and see what you can find, good ones pop up you just have to wait.
from some of the prices my brother was telling me I think W.A is pretty pricey for patrols. like 2.8 turbo gq for $27,500.

Yeah i was thinking back to when i was looking before and they were cheaper on the other side..lol.

Have been looking in the quokka and there are quite a few for sale, so i got some choices. There's not many to choose from in regards to dealers in my price range and they are absolutely stock std, nothing on em except for maybe a bullbar...lol
