Group Buy on GQ/GU 4.625:1 Ring & Pinions

Post by ... rick »

Okie dokies Patrol-o-philes!

BBM are offering a Group Buy on 4.625:1 Ring and Pinion sets. These will be sets (that is, one front & one rear) only. Sorry i cant do singles for this deal.

The gears will only suit the smaller rear diff (not the huge one found in some GU's and utes) and all fronts. The gears themselves are the excellent quality Terrain Tamer brand. After 18 months of selling these I have yet to have a single gear come back with an issue, so I am confident in offering them here.

We are offering the gears as a set and they will be $660. I need the first 12 to come forward for this deal to go ahead.

Thanks guys!!

Rick.

Changing the diff ratios from 4.1 to 4.625 will this make much difference? What would be the equivalent change in transfer gears? A 43% or 88%? How much does this then effect the high ratio? Is it still quite drivable on the highway?
Thanks Phil

If your running the common 4.11:1, 4.6's will put you just about back to std with 35's on board.

you cant compare it really to Rockhopper gears, different thing.

Your truck came out with 31's and 4.1's.

You have upsized tires to 33's by your sig, so now its 33's and 4.1's.

The diff ratio options with Nissan are ( * is not factory)
3.5
3.9
4.1
4.3
4.6
4.8*
5.1*
5.3* (If I remember)
I think there is one more, but dont bother for now.

So if you want your gearing back to standard, you would go with 4.3's, which are highly sort after. (Brunswick diesel usually have em!)

If you want your gearing lower than standard/original, then 4.6's would be good if you are thinking 35's or bigger.
4.6s will give you more RPM for less speed, not always good on highways of touring is a passion.

HTH...

EDIT: Good work Rick, hope it works out well :)

Thanks Bogged - I will fit a set of 29inch tyres and take that for a spin. That should give me a good idea of what 4.6 gears would be like.
