I am looking at stroking my 302 to 377, using the 302 heads and refitting to my GQ.
does anyone have one oe these motor combos, if so whats the general feeling towards them,
help is appriciated

Don't waste time with the 302 heads (only difference is their closed chamber and bump your compression quite high), at zero deck height expect 10.5 to 11.0 which is a bit much for cast iron heads on street fuel, flow rates are a bit average and wont really suit the larger motor.

You can buy CHI alloys complete for $2300.00, using a smallish solid cam 235-238 duration, you can make over 500hp at the flywheel and gobs of torque on a standard stroke 351, of course by going bigger in stroke, you make more torque earlier and of course improve bottom end response.

I have one here on the stand right now using above setup, just waiting for the carby and dizzy to arrive, should be a menacing combo.

if your runnin LPG, the bump in compression woulda been beneficial as LPG doesn't ping as easily i woulda thought?

try fordforums.com. they got a fair bit of clevo knowledge

why 377??? why not go 393 or 408??

no exchange for cubic inches and u can buy heaps of stroker kits for the clevelands.

as nutterGQ said dont waste your time with the 302 heads. the CHI are a good head, so are the iron 4v's but will prob make less torque if u dont get the rite ones.

the clevelands are an awesome engine at least i think so built properly will make a heap of hp!

I run a 383 stroker cleveland in my maverick . I'm using eagle rods hyperatic pistons with file back rings I've also had the oil journals and galleries modified to help with flow.,My heads are 302 close chamber that have been extensively ported by superflow with 4v stainless valves manley springs and collars. On the top I'm using crane roller rockers with a big cam dynamics cam and procomp ignition setup. My manifold is a elbrock single four barrel type with twin gas research setup. This combination has been both reliable with heaps of torque and revs like nothin else. I don't know what the motor puts out but I can pull some good wheel stands and smoke my 35 baja claws easily. ( I don't any more sick of breaking engine mounts and breaking axels.) I own 2 Nissans and have been very happy with the conversion.

I have a 351c in my cruiser i want to tweak a bit down the track.

Mate the 302 Heads will be fine, Stick to around the 377-380 Cubes if going to use an Offset Ground 351Crank and Don't go bigger then 30thou over. Use the Longest rods you can.

This engine was an Expirement. Std Crank, Std 302 Rods, ACL Hypertec Pistons. Topped with Cleaned Up 4V's, Small Roller Cam, Tunnel Ram, 660 Holleys, 400RWHP@7000rpm

Thanks for all the replys guys, i just need to get the funds and find someone to machine it all up. I think that at 377 will be more than enough for my needs at this stage anyway

mate, as the boys above have said, almost any combo in a ford will work. After years of building these beasts, one thing we did learn is really all you have to do is jam a good set of rods and pistons in it, and a f****in big cam at it and it will go! We tried sooooo many different combos, from insanely flowed 2V's through to a set of yates. But the engine we were all amazed at was the dunger work truck, a $20 clevo! through on some shaved to the eyeballs STOCK 2v's and a 2nd hand set of flat tops and someones cleaned up rods. put a big hyd cam in it, and it would run 12.5's all day in an XD ute, then weekdays we would load a ton of steel and crap in it and it would drive fine in everyday traffic (although it sounded FAT with twin 3" flowmasters). The ford heads flow heaps, no matter which ones, a 30min cleanup is pretty much all they need, untill you are running large solids.

just dropped $4600 on carb, fuel pump and ignition today, this ones not a budget setup, hoping to engine dyno in next 6 weeks, ill put pics up soon.

porting 2v's is a waste of money, the port n rebuild can cost more than alloys and will never have as much airspeed as alloys, you'll have a bigger cam and less down low....4v's don't even start, not for a heavy car.

After my 302 cleveland (in GQ) died from overheating I rebuilt it into 351, with the 302 heads, zero decked the block, used dish pistons to get 10.5:1 comp ratio, used 351 rods, have stainless 2V valves with single groove retainers, hardened exhaust valve seats, ported the heads myself with expert advice, using a Comp Cams 224@0.050" lift cam with matching springs, Yella Terra roller rockers, Edelbrock RPM Air Gap manifold, but don't know how it goes yet!
I've done the disassembly/ assembly myself, it's cost $3000 total in parts and machining. The most important thing is to match all the parts if you want hp and measure everything. Don't expect a stroker crank to give big block hp if the rest of the engine is left standard. It's been said to get alloy heads... they are nice but do not make sense if the rest of the engine is budget- lots of people get carried away with spending mega $ for the few extra horses at high rpm.
