100 series v8 or diesel

hey thinkin of buyin a 100 series just judgin up which 1 to get for around the same money you can get a v8 gxl or a non turbo diesel gxl does any one no how eithier of these cars go on fuel or which 1 will be the better tow vechile for a camper on the beach

Diesel may be more expensive (at the moment) however the V8 cruiser are really thirsty. If you are going to tow, I would seriously consider the diesel, as the V8 economy would be even worse with a load on the back. Also consider where you are going to travel, as some remote comunities have limited fuel supplies (sometimes ULP is not available) and LPG (if you converted the V8 over) is virtually non existant.

do a search on fuel economy figures for both vehicles on here and also google, may give you the answer you want....

I dont mean to throw a spanner in the works but if i couldnt afford a Factory Turbo diesel i would be looking at a V8. For what you want it for i.e towing a camper up the beach. I would be looking at the V8 auto. On road: Plenty of power and torque for powering up hills on the highway, overtaking with a load is effortless. On The Beach: Ton of grunt in the soft stuff, if you chose an Auto over the Man, dragging the camper through the soft stuff is easy! Sink the boot let the auto do the thinking. You certainly dont have to worry about the V8 running out of puff. Only down side is they are bloody thirsty!!!!!!!! The things the V8's have over the N/A diesel: Petrol is much cheaper then Diesel, Power, Torque, Nice and quiet, effortless to drive, Great on the sand, independent front end makes beach and on-road driving nice and comfy. There are many more petrols on the market, so finding a really clean example for the right price wont be hard, longer service intervals, but the best thing about the V8 is with a decent exhaust the noise they make is enough to make you not care how much fuel it uses...Infact it would nearly put the horn on a jelly fish!!!! Down Sides: Thirsty Very Thirsty!!!!

The diesel is an absolute slug without a turbo. Fully loaded and/or towing the n/a diesel is actually quite thirsty. Reason being, you really have to drive it hard. The amount of diesel you will use vs the performance you get, will be very disapointing.... Oh and if you need to overtake, forget it!!!Our overtaking lanes arnt long enough to wind the 1HZ up! If you wanted an Auto in the diesel there are only a couple getting around. They are even slower! Towing a camper fully loaded up a long soft climb you really have to chose the right gear and drive it like its stolen. Otherwise it will run out of puff. Then you have to start all over again.....Thats if your not already bogged!!! Things the Diesel has over the Petrol: Reliability of the trusty old 1HZ, Economy, simplicity of the diesel, has a Solid front end so alot stronger then IFS. Down sides: Lack of power and torque, only come in manual except a couple of autos getting around, price of diesel at the bowser, loaded up and or towing you really have to give it a hard time. not as nice to drive on-road as the IFS.

I love my oil burners but without a turbo they are useless, the V8 gets my vote
