front crank seal !!!

ive got a 1998 3l diesel with a leaky front frank seal its had 2 seals in it in 6 months the motor has done 170000 k's is this common? my mechanic said he just did a crankshaft in the same motor for the same problem ! is this a common problem with this motor thats done 170,000 km?

Has the old seal cut a small groove in the crank if so it'll leak and it only has to be a small groove also was it a aftermarket or genuinne seal.

was a genuinne seal but i pulled the timeing belt over off today and it was full of sand and mud so i got a new seal and idler bearing and all fix now cheers
