Cutting a Dash, Whats in there??????

Post by nellyb1 »

Hey people,

Just wondering if anybody out there has ever cut up a dash?
I cant say that i've done it, so i'm not too sure of what is actually inside the thing.

I'm looking at cutting a hole the same size as a stereo int he top of the dash, above the two centre air vents. I'm looking at mounting a folding touch screen display in it, for the car pc i've gotten a hold off.

I'm guessing i can just cut the foam off carefully, and i'm guessing that there will be some sheet metal in it? Is that right?

Use an angle grinder to cut out the hole.

I know i'm going to have to mod the air vents up, but it will be worth it int he end.

Any ideas would be great cheers.

Friend of mine did it too her Gq to mount a kenwood dvd player. Set it in nicely . Theres metal about 20 mm under the foam
Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.

its in a 88 mav.

Right above the two air vents in the middle. Should look ok there.

I wanna set it up vertically in there, so that when i turn the car off the screen goes in and lays flat with the dash.

yeh man that looks sick.

I was thinking of cutting into the dash only enough to fit the unit upright.

Can you remember what the air vents look like inside the dash.
is there just a big plastic bit conneting them, or are they singluar.

I mounted my screen on an arm bolted under the jesus bar end, saved cutting up the dash.
