ONE CAL CV BROKEN
I had a CAL CV let go on friday night the short side in my SUZZYQ. For the people who don't know my truck she is a gq lwb chassie suk body commodore V6 auto on IROK 42'S . Not a heavy truck at all and with a stock as you can get V6. I'M now just waiting to see how the after sale's service.

There's been quite a bit of coment on Pirate about the cromo CV's having a very good restance to shock loading but not very good life due to wear and tear. Something to o with being soft to absorb the shock loads but that means they stretch with normal loads.

If wearing them out to point they are weak and can break is going to be an issue I will try Yuri's.
No point spending nearly $2K and finding out they will but stuffed from on road driving.
If it was a comp only truck then it may be worth it.

Cal's neighbours, who bought my first buggy off Nam, have the first ever prototype set of the GQ CV's. They were clicking for months and months, driving big stuff every single day (as you do if it's in your backyard) and the CV's still held together. Cal has sold a few hundred sets of these joints at this stage, mostly to Europe and South America, the only breakages thus far are the GU unit at Cooma, which was replaced as possibly faulty, a GQ unit that had a deformed bearing spindle gouge the shit out of the stub axle, and the GQ unit posted by AT4ANTHONY in this thread.
That's a pretty good run, I reckon. I used to sometimes break 3 or 4 standard units in a weekend. And I know a lot of people were in the same boat.

The longfields are the same as the these re the clicking, they do the same after a while and can sound horrible but still dont break (well not very often anyway).
The fact that a few have broken is no surprise to me, built dana 60's break, as did petes old yella cruiser with big ass axles and so too has Mal's bushi with portals.
Anything is breakable and these other options cost shitloads more than 2grand and are no where near an easy fit option like these.
Im sure if your running big tyres and drive hard shiat, then sooner or later you may pop one, but that goes with anything out there, nothing is indestructable and you would have broken a but load of standard ones well before one of these was to finally let go....

When i made my post re the CVs clicking please dont think im bagging them in any way Prior to me useing them we were breaking factory ones quite often,these have done quite a few comps and club runs and although they are clicking they are still holding together,they have out lasted factory CVs many many times over..

i think suzyQ might need to calm his driving down a bit. 3 cal cvs is ludacris. yes they are uber strong but they are still a cv joint at the end of the day. i bet he has huge reduction on those 42s aswell? remember torque will break shit just as easy as weight will if its crammed under a rock.

Common sense still needs to be used in 4wding, even though you outlay 2k on Cv's does'nt mean you now have a bullet proof front end.
I have been running cal cv's for approx 1 year now with many podium place wins and have not broke a cv, rear axles are a common breakage.
The cv’s sound like a set of maraka's in the front but they dont break , but i know when to get of the gas and when to nail the power.
Hubs we broke endless , then we built the "HUB RINGS" to stop the hubs blowing apart.
The truck is a GQ full body 3 tonne+ truck with 320+ HP rear wheel nitrous/Turbo TB42 with 40 Trepadors and front dig capability.
I know what a standard cv can handle and the cal cv's have a damn lot more strength than them but everything does have a breaking point , you as a driver just need to know when to back of, otherwise if you cant get of the gas spend the money and purchase dana diffs.
We drove a particular track with 2 new NTN cv's in it 20 mts into the track broke both loading it up , we have driven this track as well as so many others with cal cv's in it and they are still going.
We have also used welded bell cv’s that are a lot stronger than standard and they are still weaker than the cal cv’s.
Just remember everthing has a breaking point .
