ok,turns out the light that had come on and is staying on isnt the oil light :oops: its actually the light for water sensor unit,i had alook along the chassis and low and behold no water sensor unit,so i went through the box of spares in the back of the car and its in there.

previous owner has snapped the drain bolt,could that have caused him issues with motor cutting out,i went to the wreckers today and sourced another one,i havnt looked in the fuel filters yet,beem flat out lately,but have a mechanic coming to have a look on saturday arvo,he suggests fuel issues to,and also that no water senser unit not good,previous owner has removed it and just conected tube for straight through fuel :bad-words: so hopefully saturday will sort all the issues

i tryed a brand new battery for no result,even with fuel issues,shouldnt the engine try to turn over,not just have starter motor click?or are diesels different there

No mate, in this area diesels and petrols are identical, no fuel no start for both.

If the battery is good, the starter motor is healthy and the engine is free to turn it should spin until the battery goes flat. (Assuming no fuel)

oh i had a lady see my car parked out the front,plus my fj60 in the drive way,she came in asking if i want to buy parts or her whole car,turns out she has just blown her engine,piston through the block,on an 86 model 60 series turbo diesel,i went to have a look but have to wait till tommorrow,curious to if its a 2 h or 12 ht,can u use the turbo off a 12 ht on a 2 h

thanks geemul,thats what i mean,the car doesnt even try to kick over,all i get is a tick from the starter motor,i guess starter could be shagged,but battery works fine in my hj45 ute with 350 chev,so battery is fine,car not even trying to start for me then would mean thats where i should be looking first yes,why isnt starter turning car over

That'd be the go bloke!

Check that starter motor out, if the battery is good enough to spin a 350 chevy it should be good to spin a 2H!

That dead Turbo 60 Series could be a good score. I'd guess the starter motor should be the same as the one in the 2H !!

I can't answer any more, I know nothing about the 12HT, only ever owned Cruisers with 2F, 2H, 1HZ & 1HD-FTE engines.

I'd say the starter motor. If the solinoid is clicking when you turn the key then the wiring sounds good. Just mak sure that the wiring is good to the starter straigt off the battery and make sure that your earths are good from the battery to the chassis and from the motor to the chassis.
No fuel seperator could mean alot of water has gone through your injector pump. This is not good. Right now would be a good time to change filters ;).
For the starteer issue, I'd remove it and get it checked. With all the info given I'd be looking at a stuffed starter on top of a fuel issue. And since we know it's not seized, then it's looking like a starter. Removing the injectors is a good idea to as said above.

The starter relay is located on the inside of the guard on the drivers side. nexto the air box.

if you drop the plug off the bottom of this relay, and short the two connections in the plug, you will bypass all of your ignition systems and the starter should fire.

ok went and got a starter from the wreckers,came out of a 75 series and was tested as fine,bolted the sucker up and click,grrrrrrrrrrrrrr,isnt the starter,also noted was the charge light on the dash doesnt light up when ignition is switched on,i cant recall if ive seen it light up before when it was going,but im pretty sure it did,also when car was cutting out it lit up wwhen car conked out,another thing i remember is when car was about to conk out it started clicking,like the clicks when u warm up the glow plugs,but only the first time it started to run funny,could car cut out from an electrical fault

try that, You want to short the two larger diameter cables together. These are the ground for the starter.

If the starter doesnt fire then, there can only be a problem between the battery to starter, or the ground from the plug.

Engine could cut out due to electrical problem. But only if the EDIC is connected and working. The EDIC is what controls the fuel setting on the pump, has a pushrod that connects to the side of the pump.

I think you mentioned the EDIC was disconnected, there is no other electrical connection to the 2H other than sensors. Once the 2H is started, it needs no power at all, except to keep the EDIC in motor run position. mechanically Disconnect the EDIC and the motor will run all day without any power.

yeah at the time of conking the control rod from the edic was disconected,when i turn the ignition now,the edic moves where its sposed to,its all conected up,ill try shorting those 2 wires,i wouldnt have a clue whats going on,so yeah,ill try shorting the 2 thick wires in the starter relay,do i conect them then turn the ignition? then see what happens yeah

As soon as you short the two wires together the sytarter will(should) spin.

It will spin until you remove the piece of wire you've shorted the connecter with.

Have the ignition in the on position if you want the engine to start.

Even better, manually push the edic forward toward the radiator, this will push the pump into over-fuel which would normally be done by your ignition system when your cranking.

shorting the connector will be the easiest way to know for sure wether the starter is good or the ignition isnt working.

well new starter from the wreckers was tested and found to be cactus,so will return it,get my money back and get another starter from a different wreckers

well starter motor was brought back and a replacement tried,it sounded like it was working but motor didnt do squat,so still thinking i have fubarred the donk,but havnt given up hope,as im not that gifted with motors,so who knows,so i guess i keep sussing things,might drop the oil then sump and have a look see inside,might just give up on it to,lol

So how did you go with this problem mate ?

If its still on going, another suggestion is to pull your EDIC motor apart and give it a clean. My old 2H has similar issues to yours and I went through much the same problems as you. Finally stripped the EDIC and found it was full of watery crap... cleaned it up and away she went.

shes definatly locked up,i need to find me a replacement donk,theres a 2h arb turbo for sale in here,might have sold by now,so might have to settle for a naturally aspirated one,and turbo down the track,unless i win tatts,lol
