Looking at buying a 85 sierra hard top off trade-me. I only want this vechicle to get to work and also be able to go and play on the tracks around christchurch. I havent been to look at the car yet, Just wanting to get some info so im prepared when i take a look at it
The vehicle has rust in the roof and also the rear quarter panels. How easy is this to be fixed? Because I'm only staying here for around 6 months I was considering bogging the roof and repairing the quarter panel. Either that or get some alloy plate and use it as "body armour"/rust disguise to pass road worthy.
The car also has idling issues also but im thinking I will replace the carb with the toyota one that others have used that has manual choke. From a search spark plugs, dizzy caps, and fuel solenoids can effect idle is there anything else that i should look at.
Pictures of the vehicle and the rust can be seen here (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =189715741)
Thanks, Paul

Having a look at those pictures, I don't think bog is going to help very much Especially in the rear quarter. I fixed a lot of rust in a previous zook with a combination of fibreglass and bog with very good results. Welding in sheet is another option but welding zook body work is a major pita.

Didnt think about a compression test but thats a good idea. Had a search does 200psi standard and 170psi minimum sound right with about 15psi variation between cylinders.
With the rust what do you think a shop would charge for doing the repair only with no paint (ballpark). I might even take some photos when I look at the vehicle and get some quotes to have a pro repair it. To be honest at this stage im after a quick fix and if I stay longer in the country then fix it properly.
