Last weekend I heard a pop from the front, going up a fairly sizeable hill.
After investigating for a bit i found an oil leak coming from the axle housing where it joins the diff housing. The axle housing starts to radius out, joining the diff and on the front and rear parts there are triangle pieces welded in. Right along these welds are hairline cracks, that I found with di-penetrant and when in 4wd piss out oil.
Fixing at the moment with new weld fillets and a 5mm plate gusset welded onto the top of the diff/axle housing to strengthen.
Just wondering if this has happened to many others??
Oh yeah ill take a pic later and put it on (not that you can see much).

Failed welds on front diff.
Very common in early diffs, 88-89 models seem to be worse, brace the diff and plate over the welds dont just weld over them as they will crack again.
