79 Series.

Post by jaztaz »

G'Day all, thinking about buying an '05 79ser RV. It already has a safari chip & 3"zorst. Cupla q's, is the safari chip programmable? Is there an intercooler kit (front mount pref.) available for it? Will 100ser intercooler setup bolt straight into 79 engine bay? Any inherent problems with these utes? Thanks in advance for any help.

the intercooler set up from a 100series will not bolt into the 79 because it is a front mount and the 79 has no space unless you add the grill extension there is not much interchangeable between the 79 and 100even the turbo and computer are diferent injector pump you name it its diferent

there are aftermarket intercooler kits available

the 79 has different pistons that are capable of withstanding higher temps too.

Will that include 5 ltrs of oil (the amount req to a 8000 km cape trip)

still waiting to see how they pan out in the long term
I think it will be good to see how those pieso injectors last at $1000 each
Thats $8000 bucks for a set of injectors

I live in kiribati and we have a heap of those new hiace vans (D4D same style injectors)with about 150000km on them and injectors are selling like hot cakes

Everyone knows the 1HDFTE is a good thing in the long term

I may buy a V8 but I will give it some time to prove its worth in the longevity dept lots of new released models have a few issues within the first few years till the bugs are worked out (1hdt big ends,h150 second gear syncro) all these turned out to be awsome things once sorted.

toyota will adress any problems i just would not have wanted one of the early ones

MUD000, more than likely interested. Am going to buy new ute in next cupla months. Been down owner/modifier path before, lost little bit of interest in that (plus it's getting ShortyIQ hot up at the moment). Open to ideas.

chips are chips...the one on the motor is for that setup. If you ad intercooler, in my humble opinion, ask safari about the HO kit, which is large intercooler big chip...dont know if they will sell you one on a 79 but worth asking. Cooma diesel sell intercooler kits for 79's new grill and front mount. You can theoretically put more boost into a ute motor with better pistons...if u do buy and intercool, a new chip is in order

How are they racking up so many kilometres on a tiny island nation that is supposed to be flooded with global warming?

Have you guys had the D-4-D motor a while? I know its been out in the UK/Europe for nearly 10 years in the 4 cylinder.

We have 1 road it is about 40km long and we have about 40 privatly owned hiace vans that go up and down nonstop picking up paying customers.
They get to the end turn around and go back 24/7 .stop, start the whole time some of them have been here about 3 years hence the high mileage
Although 150000 here is probably the same as 300000 in aus these vans are completely near stuffed and they are not very old busted windows dents everywhere you name it!! even rust.

cheers
