Nissan will launch an all-new Patrol Down Under, but not until late 2010


Nissan Australia boss Dan Thompson has confirmed an all-new Patrol is on the way. But you'll have to wait until at least the middle, and probably the end of 2010 for it to arrive Down Under.

Thompson told the Carsales Network the all-new full-size 4x4 would be launched globally towards the end of 2009. Though he would not divulge any details on the new full-size offroader or the line-up, the confirmation flies in the face of speculation that Nissan had effectively killed off the long-time model.

"We will see the new Patrol globally unveiled next year -- not for Australia but globally… So the product is real, the product is coming and we're sort of at that final stage firming up the plan for us," Thompson said.

Thompson said the local operation was still working on aspects of the business case of Patrol.

"For Australia, it's still a work in progress... But it will be coming to Australia."

Thompson would not pinpoint currency or regulatory issues as the hold-up.

"It would be nice to have the car tomorrow, but that's not a reality. The global unveil will be at the end of next year and probably a fair amount of time after that will be the reality for us," he opined.

"It's more the [overall] business case and unfortunately the business case involves all those issues... But once again the vehicle will come -- we've just got to work through those last details." he said,

Speculation has the new Patrol débuting at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show, but Los Angeles is more likely from a market standpoint. Thompson would not comment on whether the 4x4 would retain its traditional body-on-frame construction.

Whether the move to unitary construction happens or not, it is likely the new Patrol will move from inline to V6 powerplants -- in both petrol and diesel versions.

Tipped to find a home under the new Patrol's bonnet is Renault's new V6 dCi which was co-developed with Nissan. The new 3.0-litre engine has been designed for both transverse and longitudinal applications and can be adapted to pass Euro5 and California's tough emission regulations.

Rated at 245hp and 450Nm in its initial incarnation, in rear or four-wheel drive applications, the V6 dCi will deliver torque outputs of up to 550Nm.

Sounds like just the engine to take it up to the Toyota LandCruiser's turbodiesel V8, Mr Thompson...

being released in USA means IFS and it will look hideous.

You wouldnt buy the first of any "NEW" model until they iron out the bugs (look at grenade) so that means 2120 at the earliest.

although the power MAYBE nice if they bring it as advertised.

Since we doubtly will get the Y62 in Germany (Nissan still says NO to marketing the new Patrol in Germany with sales being less than 300 cars/yr.), they confirmed to the dealers that the Y61/GU will get be produced a bit longer and as they understand in parallel with the new model. The GU will definitly get the new V6 diesel by next year for the european market to keep up with mandatory emissin standards.

Seems like its all the craze now to go IFS. I will admit they are a much nicer ride, smoother and makes it even better for the likes of the RTA and such, there is only so much you can do to an IFS car to modify it, keeps them closer to stock.

Landuser 200 series are all IFS so Nissan won't be outdone by Toyota there, since Live axel seems to be going in the bin, i will be holding onto my GQ or GU whatever i get next it will be Patrol and it will be live axle

Its though nice to see Nissan finally giving the ZD30 the big flick, i had a mate saying that the new CRD 3L was a whole new engine and didn't have the bugs of the old one, how little he knows :)

Little did he know he was talking to a Nissan Patrol Fanboy, plenty of time to sit back and read the engine specs and stuff at work :)

I do not believe they will come to the USA or that they will showcase them in LA.

Here is why....

We haven't had a new Patrol in the USA since 1969!

The picture posted is the Armada and ya it is a pos yuppie mobile. It has IFS front and rear axle. :oops:

If they take away the solid frame/chassis and make it uni-body plus go IFS then it is truely the death of the Patrol. I won't want one even if it is availble in the USA for the first time in over 30yrs. :cry:

I was wondering about this, how hard would it be to have a base chassis with the fit out to accept either solid or ifs.

i dont know much about ifs set ups but the hilux came out with both versions in different models during the 90's.

Then it would be a easy and legal conversion, or a bit like ordering leather seats and a sun roof - you order in advance and you get it how you like it.

Holden said nah stuff it let ford have the 1 tonne ute market, perhaps nissan needs to say stuff it toyota can have the ifs market, ill corner the live axels mob.

yes, but that means extra work, tooling, and parts.. too easy for them to just have one.
they dont give a rats arse what you want, their theory is you will have what they give you.. give it 2-3yrs there will be no live axle anymore at all.

hey now don't blame this on us yanks! I call BS on that....

We have the Rubicon and while it is a jeep pos it is a capable 4wd off the showroom floor. So you can't say all we have here is mall cruisers.

So out of all the SUV/trucks available in the world is the Dodge/Fords the only ones that still have a solid front axle??
