hey guys i recently purchased a gu patrol coil cab ute tho i want more whistle out of the exhaust ....... it already has a 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust thats sounds great but you can only just hear the whistle (looks like a factory dump pipe) and i added a K and N filter in the factory box. its currently running 8 pound of boost also. i dont have a snorkle yet but that is on the shopping list for later...
ive been told to wind the boost up to bout 12 psi and have it dynoed and ive been told a snorkle will make it wistle like a bitch but i dont want to fork out money for these things if it isnt going to make a true TURBO DIESEL sound..... im really happy with the economy at the mo too.....
haha my GU ute whistles too loud i rekon... loud as sounds like a ricer car when changing gears and revving up ... grows on ya though.... funny when pple allways seem to stare when i drive past...
I have fitted one of these, I modded the dump slightly with a die ginder behind the swinggate. I reshaped the flange to allow the swinggate to open more. I also added a socket for the pyro.
To fit the exhaust to a ute the engine pipe needs to be modded to clear the safety loop from the cab to chassis on the LHS of the T case.
As you already have a 3" exhaust you can just get the dump though, it does make a big difference to exhaust temps, and seems to give better responce.
hey guys cheers for the advice, i definately wont be putting that fake turbo blow off valve thing on cause they are as gay as elton john... as i said i already have a 3 inch mandrel system. the dump pipe sounds like a good idea. i dont have an mufflers or hotdogs in the exhaust.... any idea how much a dump pipe from dieseltech is??? cheers
haha too funny! i dont want it to sound like a street car i just want it to sound like a turbo diesel should lol. is there any chance my turbo is on its last legs? the car has done 178000klms and i dont think its been replaced
where bouts on the sunny coast are u? i have a gu ute your most welcome to.....listen to ..... if need be. 3in straight trough with dump pipe and factory exhaust route. it doesnt "whistle" loud, but has a distinct diesel note too it. its hard to get a feel for the noise when your driver
cheers
PAUL
EDIT: this is my truck, turn the volume up loud and you may get an idea of what mine sounds like. not the best example i know

not all turbo diesels have a loud whistle through the exhaust.. I'd be more worried bout performance and use than a whistle.
thanks guys for the info and vanbox thanks heaps tough truck you have!!!! mine sounds bout the same as yours. going get a 3 inch dump pipe and bump the boost up and see how that goes with a dyno tune. cheers for all the help guys and if anyone else has anymore ideas please tell cheers
