Rancho 9000 shocks??
Had a look at the rancho website the other day so I can order my new shocks.
Is it true that there is only one front and one rear shock to suit the Pajero from 92-00? It seems that the RS99223 and RS99213 are the only shocks that will suit. Not that this is a problem, I was just curious.... I believed that there was a couple sizes to choose from.

hey grant if you do a bit of a search thru all the posts on this board, a while back i did some reasearch on some alternate rancho shocks which would give you some more travel. frank knows all about it. i would find the post but i am at work.

I would be interested to c how they go. Have heard some very bad reports about rancho. Good for slow trail work, but not fast flat stuff ie corrugations etc. We had 3 die on a car with us on our Simpson Desert Trip. I was looking into Konis as I have always had a good run with them. MMM KOnis on the Maverick and Pajero me thinks
You really need to play with the settings to work out what works best over different terrains. (Don't go by their setting guidelines)
I've never had anything to complain about with the Ranchos but would like to upgrade to the in-cab controls so that the settings front and rear could be corrected on the fly (big benefit).

I was talking to someone about this last week.
Tough Dog have just released a 9 stage adjustable shock but at present they are only available for Cruisers and Patrols.
However in the coming months all of their shock range will be converted over to adjustables.
From memory they had a suspension kit with 2" longer shocks for the Paj.

Haven't fitted the Tough Dogs yet. Still doing some market research (procrastinating). Does any one else have any thoughts on the pros and cons of various shocks for Gen 2 Pajs? Currently running blue Ultimates (labelled TUS) which have been good/adequate (with TUS coils and bars etc, all on the vehicle when I got it, 90000km ago. But with over 300000km on the clock it's starting to get a wishywashy on the road. Was going to get the Ultimates rebuilt, but by the time you add freight and downtime (it's the wife's daily driver) ..... As I said, still researching?

You may have noticed the article Errol posted on the Pajero Club forum about his experience with Konis. This is the only bad report I have heard about them, and have had Konis on (2wd) daily drivers for about 15 years now (still on the original fronts - had them rebuilt between cars last year.)
I was keen on Ranchos, but a Google search of Australian sites didn't turn up much good, but that may have been because I was also searching for the in-cab adjuster and didn't get much at all - nothing came from this site. A few reports of Ranchos failing on Gibb River road, while accompanying OMEs had no problems. But on such posts you never get the full story...
I gave up on the Ranchos when I found they had no listing for Pajero beyond 1" lift - didn't think to find a suitable shock like Frank and Mike have done. I was keen on getting the in-cab adjuster - something else to play with!
In the end I took the easy way out and went to OME. The front is much better than it was, but I think I went overboard with the back. Too stiff for lightly loaded, but with the stuffed suspension I had the car is still riding better, and it should cope with a decent load much better.
Never looked at Tough Dog - not sure why.
