tachometer for a diesel engine

Am I right in assuming that diesel engines would use a different type of tachometer to the common ones found for sale in most car part stores? Any suggestions on where I can get one from?

what model diesel motor is it form what car
toyota 80#,d/cab ute chop,6" springs,20mm body lift, 315/75/16 muds, and 39" michelin XML play tyres , turbo 4.2 1HZ top mount intercooler diesel.now ENGINEERED.
