Fiberglass front guards and bonnets

hey guys just a quick question.

im starting to make fibreglass bonnets for GQ patrols... with/ without scoops whateva...
im considering making a mould for front guards just wondering if there is an intrest for these parts.
secondly - would you guys prefer gelcoat or 2pac finnish...
Gelcoat is a tad tougher and more or less the same price... just quicker.
only downside no metalics

down the track im looking at GU.
just pulled a bonnet off the mould then.. its strong enough i hit it with my hammer and it didnt dent. happy with the stength

ill start on the guard moulds soon.
just a bit of background on me. yes it is a backyard job out of my shed.. but im a boat builder by trade.
let me know if theres still intrest... ill be looking into Carbon. Kevlar composites soon.

im looking into some different types of core mats. price may differ... but i want the strength to be there...no pissy little flipperty flap bonnet. unless thats what ya want
but they would be pretty much custom...

Make sure you post up when you have the GU gear, as i would definately get a bonnet and a set of gaurds

yeh mate in a couple of months i will be keen on some front guards, but flared out like 2 inches or just an inch more than standard, and the wheel well moved forward about 6 inches. Can you do this or will you have to make a new mold which will cost heaps?

VERY INTERESTING,,
1 can you make the wheel arches be larger ( to accomidate 35" to 37" tyres)

2 is it cheaper to have them non painted (so we can colour match them)

3 can you have them flared out 2" to 3" wider than standard, but still with an edge under the guard to attach rubber flaring if needed. as a lot of comp GQ's are puting GU front ends under(wider than gq) most people take off the factory GQ flare whitch can expose the wheel by 2"s or more

4 bonnet with scoop how much unpainted, & do they bolt up to the bonnet hinges or are they a lift on/off clip on version.

5 when there maid can they be made in a base colour,IE red so when you paint your car red stone chips & scratches dont show up as bad, or blue for blue cars ect.

I would be in for some GQ Quarter Panels if they were wider and could accomodate some bigger tyres,
And for the bonnetts would you include some flutes for hot air to escape?? as a lot of guys are lifting the rear of the bonnett to get some air out.
Just a thought.

As far as i'm aware, nissans crash testing was done with metel panels. So it would need to be proved that fiberglass panels would return the same results in a crash for them to be legal.

I would be intrested in front gaurds that are wider and enable bigger tyres to be fitted.
Style side ute rear panels would be cool to, also wider and enable bigger tyres to be fitted.

Seems pretty unanamous that front guards would be a big hit if they could fit bigger tyres,
how much do you think they would be,?
Gelcoat white would probably suit more people. (yes mine is white)

i havent thought about materials ext for the front guards... but id imagine something around $500 a pair. id have to make the parts first. could be less

you are worried about a bonnet and some guards being legal but then u prob have 36" or 35" tyres anyway so i dont see why u would be worried about legalities.

nearly any truck thats looking to run these will be un roadworthy in one way or another being to much lift or tyre size.

I stand corrected Im not too fussed on legalites, because it would be harder to pick new guards and bonnet then tyres, i was curious though.

will definitely look into GU bonnet (with and without scoops) and guards. maybe even flared similar to factory.

I know hayden from alpine offroad on here had some molds, and was talkin of makin this kit all again.. maybe contact him see if he wants to flog his molds..
