Pajero Snorkel Help.

Post by Colin. »

Hi there great forum you have here, i joined ages ago and have had awnsers to my questions without having to post as i searched for them, but i need some help with this one, i am going to put a safari snorkel on my pajero when i find the right part number for it, a few dealers have said no there is not one for that model/engine/year, ive got a late 1996 2.8 with a 4M40 engine (Electric fuel pump), problem is safari's website only shows my engine for a triton year 10/97 with a part number ss650hf, so does this this fit mine or what will, i have emailed safari today so see what they recomend, next here in the uk its always raining :) does this mean the rain will go down the snorkel!!! whilest driving, and one more thing is it an easy job to extend the axel breathers as i want to do these too.
Thanks
Colin.

Welcome to the board Colin.
Yes this has been a problem with the 2.8TDi and 3.5 V6 models.
But I can assure you there are plenty of both models over here fitted with both Safari and Airtech snorkels it's just that they don't list a specific part no for each.
The installations I have seen involved a little custom ducting from the inner guard to the airfilter box and this was done by the installers (ARB, TJM).
For specific snorkel part no's you could try the Pajero Club forum http://www.pajeroclub.com.au/forum/
As far as rain water entering the snorkel the ram air effect quicky vaporizes the droplets by the time they reach the airbox providing it's not an absolute torrent. Some guys spin the intake of the snorkel around to face the other way in seriously dusty or wet conditions tp prevent excessive ingress. There is also a product available from Finer Filter called a snorkel sock which sleeves over the intake but this is mainly for excessive dusty/sandy conditions. I'd imagine in the UK rain would be the issue so I think you will be fine.
As for diff breathers I wrote an article for Trail Talk about this http://www.4x4wire.com/mitsubishi/tech/ ... breathers/
Hope this helps.

Frank.

In terms of intake mods, depending on your app and model, you might find this helpful as well...

One of my Yank buddies did it up for us:
