No, the Land Rover Defender is still solid front axle and there are probably more getting around (eg some obscure european trucks?).

That new patrol looks like a cross between a Mazda 3 hatch rear, a Kluger midrift and a smiling cheesy cheshire cat Navara front end IMHO. It's not what we recognise as tough but none of the newer models are. I think it's as ugly as a 200 Cruiser and isn't a functional platform for a tough off roader but that's the way of the future.

Suck it up everyone :D

You have got to be shitting me!
What is Nissan thinking!
They have finally followed the trend to kill off the last good production Fourwheel drive out of japan.
What are we going to buy in the future when we need to finally upgrade.
Looks like i will be keeping my GU till it falls apart!

Well the rubicon sells pretty good over here and it is still a capable off-roader off the showroom floor even if a jeep pos. Oh ya I said that already! I would be really suprised too if the jeeps went to a IFS in the next 20yrs.

All the Land Rovers in the USA are IFS & IRS, pos freelander and now the RR is the same. They not selling D90s here anymore, never really sold D110s here. We dont get the 70 series cruisers either so no 76 series here. So ya thinking about it in the USA we got Ford/Dodge and Jeep and that is it for SFA trucks. Count rest in the world and it cant be much over a half dozen.

I guess the Benz G-wagon still runs a SFA?

Lot of money to be made in axle conversions in the future I guess!

all 3 on one base chassis design - xtrail, pathfinder, and patrol....

The Xtrail is on a different platform to the Pathfinder/Navara.

It is really only a car with a rear diff & a bit of lift whereas the others have a proper chassis, two gearboxes & a live rear axle.
Don't ask me, ask them. I'm just runnin for my life myself.
Well they are all following you...
No they ain't, I'm just in front...............

It has a Patrol badge on it, and is being shown as the new model in Saudi....

What about the agricultural folk? And commercial and government use? Plenty use the patrol as a solid platform, are they going to keep a GU style ute like Toyota has with in 70-75-78 series??

Landcruiser will be the flagship of Australia for good, if this hunk of shit arives. :x

I couldn't possibly see them doing it any other way.

Fingers crossed they make the chassis compatible with the current GU live axle setup.

I like my utilitarian GQ. Sh1t, even a GU is too fancy looking for me, let alone one of the new POS patrols.

That is why Nssan are promoting D40 & D22 Navara's as they believe these meet the market need.

What I learned from a usually well informed german Nissan dealer is that the Y61 (GU) will stay in production for some more time as the workhorse, but will get the V6 eventually to meet emission standards.
They showed some flexibility already when sales dropped with the D40 Navara which was never really accepted as a workhorse over here. They brought back the D22 in April '08 as the NP300 with less luxury and a commonrail 2.5 TD for 10k+$ less than the D40.

Whilst I'm impressed he can build it, I would expect more from Nissan engineers
