GU TD42t owners running 35's

Post by ozy1 »

hey guys, ive picked up a 2002 GU TD42t, and its great to drive on the 285/75's with standard gearing, but i wanna slot my 35's on

now what i want to know is what gearing other blokes are running? i have a pair of air lockers fitted with 4.6's ready to slot in, but im thinking i might swap them for some 4.3's,

what are your opinions? also whats RPM's are you doing and at what k's?

all help appreciated.

Hey Ozy1

I have a 2001 GU coilcab 4.2 turbo diesel and have run 33's and now 35's , i have a 3 inch exhaust , boost wound up and tuned etc .

I originally ran my 35's with standard 4.11 gearing but have since slotted in airlockers and 4.3 gears which made a big difference at higway speeds on hills and especially in low range 1st gear ( as it too tall ) .

My revs are 2500 at 110 klms on 35 inch MTZ's , i went the 4.3's over 4.6s as i think they rev a bit too much in top with 4.6's and i also do heaps of highway klms .

hope this helps Micka1

thanks for the reply mate, its interesting to see as the utes have the 4.1's where the wagons have the 3.9's, so im starting to think a set of .1's might be the go, im keen to see if someone else out there is running some other setup,

thanks heaps for the reply.

Ozy I have a Wagon with 35s with 4.6's and a ute which has 35s or 37s with 4.1's. The wagon revs too hard on the open road. On the 35's the ute is quite good but i think 4.1s in the wagon wouldn't be enough due to the weight difference.
I would definately recommend 4.3's for your wagon
GU 42td wagon for touring
GU ute for the fun stuff

i've tried all the combinations...

I have an 04 wagon, with heaps of bolt ons, i.e. draws, front and rear bar from factory i had 35's fitted with 3.9 was ok but just lacked take off even with the dump pipe and tune had approx 98kw.

Then went 4.6, great on take off just revved to hard and drank to much juice and the crown wheels aren't as strong

I then went and changed my whole turbo intercooler setup i have now about 180kw @ wheels, i was tempted to go 4.3 however once i put in a 4.1 in rear to try i was more than happy with it.

Best thing i would recommended is either chuck in a rear 4.1 complete center doesn't take to long see what you think otherwise go the 4.3 option.

Everyone is different so if you can find someone with a similar setup who have gone 4.3 or 4.1 take it for a drive...

Hopefully that helps...

cheers

James

yeah thats the thing, its had the boost adjusted and a 3" exhaust, it drives great now, the plan is to fit the rear bar and draws, fit a steel front bar, winch and all the gear, plus it will be towing my GQ comp ute so im thinkin the 4.3's will be the go,

currently i feel the 4.6's are a bit much in the GQ turbo diesel wagon, but they were a great price at the time so i wasnt complaining,

ill start looking around for some 4.3's and see what i can find, if not ill throw a 4.1 centre in and see how it drives, can always run smaller tires for towing,

it will have rockhoppers for low range anyways.

and thanks for the replys so far, you guys have been helpful.

Go 4.3's, but install Mark's gears or rockhoppers.
