1HZ and tappets

Post by me3@neuralfibre.com »

My 1HZ has 250K KM on it, and I'm wondering if I should bother pulling the rocker cover and checking the tappets. I know they are bucket and shim, so a bit of a bugger to do.
I'm not worried about looseness, just valve regression into the head that might result in burnt out valves later on.

Anyone know much about these motors to know if the valve gaps close up due to regression, open up due to wear, or do nothing cause it doesn't spin that fast anyway.

Thanx

Hey Paul the clearances do close up.
Checked mine 40,000 ago and they were out. About to check them again.
They recommend the clearances to be checked every 20,000kms.

Not a major job, so worth checking.
Best to have a set of digital verniers to measure shim thickness.

Cheers
Matt

1hz is Renound for valve stretching, ( from a toyota Technician)

same bloke lent me the SST and a bag of shims to do mine when i had it

easy enough job to do when you have done one before

from memory use compressed air to pop the shims out has been about 3 years since i did one
