wiring info/pic request 3b alternator plug loom side

Post by shorty_f0rty »

hi guys...

just wondering if anyone with a bj42 can take a picture or tell me the way the color coded wires go into the plug that goes into the alternator. I have had to replace this plug and since then appear to be frying wires.

what colored wire goes where and how are you looking at the plug (as in looking into the plug or from behind, where the wires enter the plug)

I was thinking the melting wire i had was from a bad ground but i can't find one yet.. your info will help me at least cross one thing off the list as being correct (ie, the plug is wired correctly).

I have a white with black line (2 stripes) which is frying and goes to ground behind the dash, white with blue line (1 stripe) and I think another white with black (1 stripe) .. not 100% sure cos i haven't looked at it in a day or so.

this is the plug i'm refering to (the white bit is what i replaced). the wire I am frying is the one closes to the top of the pic.

thanks guys.

got scotto to helped me check my plug against his and this is what he reckons his is like..

first is with it plugged into the alt plug
Image
bottom is white+black
top is white+blue
and under is white+green

and this is with it unplugged
Image
so the top flat wire is white+black (horizontal)
closest is white+blue (vertical)
furthest is white+green (vertical)

Can anyone else confirm this before I try and start/restart the 40 with this changed? It would give me a bit of peice of mind if someone else has the same setup as these pics.

Yeah mate, mine is the same as the last pic. Let me know if there is anything else you need to cross check.
