im running a 5ltr and a t/700 in my GU patrol motor coming out next week to be replace with 355 injected.
1) what gearbox are you using if you going auto go the vn or vp as there is no computer for the box. you will need a speed senor you also need a kit to swap the output shaft to fit transfer box from marks
2) you can use the hsv header
shit happen's & ass holes cause it
re
thanks mate this is the sort of thing im interested in, im using patrol manual with commodore clutch.
as for exhaust i was going to use standard manifolds but i might try find some hsv headers.
how did you go with engine mounts?

re
thanks hulksta.
done most of the wiring now.
what fuel pump is the cheapest and best option? does a surge tank need to be used?
last question. marks adapter websiite only list a speed sensor for a cable driven speedo or (auto computer) can or does it not provide the correct info?

Re: re
Im using a lift pump & surge tank from marks... for the main pump i'll be using bosch 044 /700hp rating... are you using a stock 5L? if so all you will need is the stock holden v8 pumpkegz wrote:thanks hulksta.

Not sure on the speed sensor, i havent got the far yet...
Do you have a set of headers yet? if not ive a good pair i'll sell ya... im not using them because i made a custom set of headers

There the ones everyboby uses for the GQ (top header in the pic is the p/side i dont have a pic of the other side but can get if you want)kegz wrote:i might use the marks lift and surge and just an inline walbro.
no i dont pm me price of ph:0412191871 very interested. these are the hsv ones yeh? did they fit in without mod?
They bolt straight up, then you just get a exhaust shop to make the rest of the system... easy as that

Do you have a part # or know exactly what model those headers are off/ suit so I can order from somewhere?
What is the common route of the drivers side with those type?
-Under sump and down the l/h side of chassis?
-Over top of bellhousing?
-Above front driveshaft somehow & along drivers side chassis rail?
I am starting my engine install (bog stock VN 304 into GQ 5spd w/ 2inch body lift) late this month too so any advice would be timely!
Up until now plan was twin 2 1/4 using std vn manifolds (as in top of pic) with drivers side to route under sump & both down left chassis rail.
I live 56756795km's from a muffler place so was just gonna weld it up myself with stainless bends & pipe on the MIG

Which header are you asking about? If its the bottom one thats one of the headers ive made myself and it for a custom dual setup one down each side of the chassis...Sandy Rut wrote:Is there a bung for the o2 sensor in those?Hulksta wrote: There the ones everyboby uses for the GQ (top header in the pic is the p/side i dont have a pic of the other side but can get if you want)

Re: re
Ah righto, yeah I took it that the bottom ones were the "hsv ones" Kegz asked you about, with the top one just being a stocker... All makes sence now...Hulksta wrote:Which header are you asking about? Anyway those headers you built look tops you must be happy with how they turned out

Re: re
yeah I have removed heaps of inner guard to fit coilovers and shit. Im expecting the conversion to be an nightmare but pump/ body clearence shouldnt be a hassle - check the pickegz wrote: sandy rut, if you use the marks adapter kit suposidly the power steering pump will hit the body if you have a body lift.
Pic is passenger side I know, but both inner guards have been opened up the same.
Can anyone recommend a good budget clutch & flywheel + supplier who is happy to frieght?
From what I have read here & there I will need a GU clutch slave too??

they seem $150 cheaper than "This is our cost price mate, shhhhh dont tell anyone" from few other places we tried on GU clutches.

i havent done this conversion but i've got a v8 vn so thought i would make some comments, hopefully they help
i dont know if speedo problems where mentioned (you probably just stick with the gq dash anyway) but my commo is manual with 4.11 diff gears (standard 3.08) so this puts the speedo out heaps. there is a few wires that come off the gearbox and go to the computer. i got a little unit that you wire inline with some of these wires and it has a little dial on it that you turn to modify the 'pulses' or whatever that go to the computer, so you drive along side someone/use gps/ get on a dyno, and turn the little dial until your speedo is correct. i've been using this for years with no problems. not sure where the unit came from, but i think jaycar have a little kit that does this. also, i am not positive if this would work with auto's, but i think it would with the 'mechanical' autos, not too sure about the 'electronic'.
with the fuel pumps, the vn v8's run a duel pump configuration, a 'regular' lift pump inside the fuel tank which feeds to a big external pump which sends the fuel to the motor. these pumps worked fine on my car and it was supercharged and putting 360hp to the wheels . only time i had an issue was when i had less that 1/4 tank and was taking off fast/going round corners hard, so thats just the fuel surge. so if you have a vn donor car, you could use the lift pump to a surge tank (just go ebay or even get on a commodore/ricer forum and get a second hand one) and use the big pump from there on. i have since changed to a single intank walbro (one of the pumps died) and these work great. i dont get fuel surge problems anymore, but its not supercharged either so doesnt need as much fuel. vp+ changed to a single intank pump i am pretty sure.
with the power steering pump hitting the body when its got a body lift, pretty sure that some of the early commodores (vb-h maybe) or maybe the kingswoods had the alternator mounted on the drivers side. so you might be able to swap sides, make a new p/s bracket and get it out of the way somehow?
with the exhaust, twin to single works fine, my car is twin 2.5 to single 3. has a single muffler (after join) and resonator, still loud as even with the blower off, its only got flat top pistons and a tune as is.

The marks kit bolts into the speedo cable drive on the manual box. then the speedo cable bolts to that. The ECU then plugs into this box which gives it the speed info its easy as.
The exhuast manfifolds you need are a cast vt ser1 pas side and a cast vs drivers side. These clear both the marks engine mounts .

Has anyone else used that kit?
If so did the GQ clutch slave work or will I need a GU one (Yes I asked Mark's & they didn't know)?
