Hi all
have a hj47s landcruiser that i have lifted 25mm bugger all i know didn't want it to look stupid. ok i have hit a problem the steering colum to the steering box is out to siht and short of getting a bigger hammer and clubbing of firewall and suround to make it fit. i have TEMPORARLEY spaced it up to suit but dont like the thought of it hits the steering box mount. any help would be great. [/b]
what is the purpose of the body lift? Are you sure you really need it?
If you really want to keep the body lift you may as well switch to 60 series power steering at the same time and use a steering shaft with a uni joint and splined slip joint. .
I spaced mine between the steering box mount & the chassis, this way it keeps it on the same plane as it was before. I also welded an extra section on the mount where it runs down the side of the chassis & used the original bolt holes. It is a bit tricky to weld properly as the steering box mount is actualy a cast item, but I had mine done by an engineer. It will need to be engineered too.
it's never a problem until it can't be fixed, even then it' only a minor set back

DAMN dude...
just trim the firewall hole down a bit.
Or convert to 60 PS...
Yep I trimmed the firewall to suit when I did mine but eventually went to 60 power steer. If you can go straight to 60 power steer now (which you will probably want to do eventually as no doubt you are lifting the body to clear bigger tyres - bigger tyres usually means heavier steering) you can avoid cutting the firewall.
would a 55 steering shaft + 80 rag joint to the existing steering box work? not sure if the splines are the same but might saving having to do ALL of the 60# power steering upgrade right away..
the lenghts might be an issue too but worth a thought.

where I live things aren't easy to come by, only have one wrecker & he doesn't have any 4wd stuff.
Plus wouldn't trimming the firewall either mean the steering column would be on you lap because you would have to space it down at the top too to keep it lined up with the box or the angle of the column would be too sevre ?
