Fitting 4.2 GU turbo to a TD42 GQ

Post by STOKKO_GQ »

I need more power in my standard td42! Looking at buying a 2002 standard GU turbo kit which has had a rebuild, to through onto my gutless gq. Alot cheaper then an aftermarket kit. Down the track i can replace turbo with an upgrade kit. Can anyone give me info on what air cleaner housings are used on a td42t? Or can i use my Standard ones?? Any Info on this swap please let me know?? Also what size dump pipe is standard on this setup?

i had the gu series 1 pump and turbo fitted to my td42 and am stoked. not going to snap your neck in the acceleration stakes but a nice dependable upgrade for an older motor. if you put the series 2 inj pump on you will get more horses again as they flow more apparently. no idea on dump pipe size though. make sure you can get the oil and water feeds for the turbo as they are plenty from nissan but hydralink made mine for me.
only the first roll hurts, then its a ride..

get a series 2 turbo. it is only oil cooled so less fuking around fitting it.

you can get off the shelf dump pipes in 3" from $120 + the std ones are very restrictive.

use a gu air box. both td42 and zd30 will fit straight into gq engine bay. (there was a thread nto to long ago about this, some say the zd30 airbox flows better)

make sure you get the alloy intake elbow witht he turbo. will make plumbing the airbox to turbo a lot easier.

i have just done this exact conversion on my gq. so anymore questions just ask :)

nope,

i and GQ diesel filter housing will not fit, i had to remove my battry tray and slid it towards the fire wall 50mm to get plenty of clearance, which also involved modding the shape of the inner guard as the over flow bottle is and odd shape and wouldnt sit properly either,

yeah mate mines got the arb tray.. just had the grind a little bit off one side of the upper lip.. stills sits in it's normal position. Also for some reason i had to chop a little notch in the bonnet for mine to close, it's double skin where i had to chop so all good. others havent had too :?
