Differential Lockers and "crawler" transfer case g
Moderator: Tiny
Its been a while since I have posted here, but it seems no breakthroughs have been made.
I find my feroza goes very well at the moment, with only a 50mm lift and 31in Muddies.
So..a couple of questions down alternate routes....
How easy is it to find a feroza LSD in australia?
Can the LSD be tightened up (shimmed) like the Nissan Patrol can?
Would any other 4x4 axle (that has a locker available) fit under a F300 narrow track feroza?

The Daihatsu LSD arnt really worth the money finding/changing them IMO unless you happen to have one lying around.Tzi wrote:Its been a while since I have posted here, but it seems no breakthroughs have been made.

mine came out with one factory, when i bought my Fez it was the typical one little old lady owner never been offroad etc etc .. the LSD worked great.... it lasted about 2 months or 4 - 5 hard offroad runs then started to slip real quick .. to the point that within a few more runs it was no better than an open diff I never bothered to pull mine and have a look at the setup before i sold it but even a good LSD works great up till the point you really need them .. then they let ya down.
My Pajero has a recently recond/tightened LSD in the rear ... and gives me quite a bit of extra traction in mud etc while both rear wheels are on the ground but once I drop one of the rear wheels off the ground the LSD dosnt really transfer enough power to the wheel on the ground to be of use and i stilll end up having to use the old left foot braking/accelarating tango I did with all my previous open diff'ed 4bies

When you find a LSD differential try using the MOTUL oil. Personally have found out that when our rear diffs are warmer the LSD works better in combination with the Motul LSD oil. Most of the times our stock LSD works in slow and steady speeds.
Here in Greece a mechanic has created an ARB type Locker (since we couldn't combine Lockright-DitroitLocker) he has fitted the air locker in Feroza that runs in ENDURO or TRAIL RIDE racing. I will try to convince him to think about sending the Locker abroad.
here is his website www.protrack.gr no pictures or more info about his lockers but he has created for a lot of cars like Samurai , Vitara, Grand Vitara, Military cars Feroza and many more.

There is (at least) one other source for feroza selectable lockers in europe but once everyone finds out the price and hit & miss availability of dealing with a small guy on the other side of the world the interest dries up.
Most people aren't willing to spend 50% of the purchase price of their vehicle for a rear locker of unknown strength and pedigree.
A far better solution is MM's Hilux/Liteace hybrid rear diff with ARB airlocker.

Yes that true that you cant trust a mechanic from the other side of the world. But also there is been a thread that a German company can also create a locker with the cost of 1000 + euros only just to fit the locker to your diff and the cost of shipping is not include. I have talked with our mechanic and he sayed is hard to make such a deal for outside of Greece because he want gain anything since he has a lot of clients here for Suzuki Toyota Daihatsu Military and military cars. I will try again later on since he is a big fan of 4x4 cars.

Yes, It's 1000 Euro, + shipping your diff to him, and he won't deal with international clients etc.
The result was a cost of well over $3000.... Like I said, most people won't spend 50% of the value of the car for a locker.

Thats why our mechanic here it costs him to fit and create a locker about 750 euros, he would reduce a lot the price since he wont fit the locker himself to your cars. I will try to have a chat with him soon

This is the continuing saga of the search for the "holy grail" of a slower running gear for my Feroza.MightyMouse wrote:Make sure to let us know how it goes - there will be many people interested in your feedback.
MM, is the Toyota R151F tranny and TT compatible with the Daihatsu Feroza? I understand they're both done by AISIN.
TIA!
Merry Christmas too.
