Help with barwork...??...

Post by JoeLux »

What would be the mimimun OD and thickness pipe you would use on a roll bar?

The pic is the kinda setup i'm going to make... black bit being the tray....

I have a sh*tload of 25mm ID that is 5mm thick, but i'm a bit worried about the strength....

No luck, if he is there he aint answering! :?

I just found a 3.2m length of 50mm OD 5mm thick... only one tho.... Might have to settle for that... Definately beating otis' budget still  , the spray job and the tray have only cost bout 400 bucks together so far... 200 for paint and about 170 for checkerplate and a bit on other bits n pieces...

most rollcages for cams approval are 32mm od with a 3mm wall thickness. if it isnt for racing and doesnt need govering body eg cams approval then it should be fine to use

HMMMMM, it's touch and go with it. Being 5mm thick it should be ok, you could always make it then go for a test, really the ID is a bit small, but it should be strong enough.

first of if it a big vehicle i would definatley go with the 50mm pipe.
I made a full cage for my zook and i used 50mm pipe for the main hoop and rear supports and 32mm for the front half..

Just my 2cents worth...

Most of the comp rules allow 1 3/4 pipe and the DOM tube has a wall of only 2.3mm so I think what you are using will be fine.

Sorry my last post probably didn't read well, being too bloody sarcastic for my own good :)

The tube will be fine!!!!!!! 5mm wall will be more than strong enough for the job, but as has been said if its a big 4x4 you may consider a bigger OD tube but not really needed.

Bending the rear stays will make it weaker I'm guessing?

Only thing is, I dont think my new 90L esky would fit under straight ones... And remember i am a lux driver so I dont do no trip without my esky
