i want 33". tell me what i need to do this.
i want 33". tell me what i need to do this.
ok guys, i got a suzi swb with 30" muddies and a rear airlocker.
i ultimately want to put 33"wheels on it for those deep as mud pits cause i got hooked up on my diffs like 4 times on the weekend.
can someone give me a shopping list of things that will need to be done.
like gear ratios and stuff like that.
that would be great.
and any down sides to having 33".
and how far can you have the wheels sticking out the side.

You need to tell us HOW you want to do it.
There's more ways to run a 33 on a sierra than there are sierra's with 33's on them. How much money so you want to spend, how much work do you want to do to bodywork, what do you want to drive?
This setup will be massive cop bait in QLD, but I'm sure you already know that.
You can't "have the wheels sticking out the side" any distance at all legally- they must be covered.
PS - do a search- this has been covered a lot. Read some buildups.
Steve.

Want33's has lots of tech - search on him as an author on here and in the members page. He has an intelligently built car.

You'll have some fun on a Sierra with a well thought out $2,500.
I'd be thinking of gearing along with your tyres. Both BBM and Locktup 4x4 will be able to help you with this.
Oh yeah,
Well I'm guessing that they didn't think everyone would carry on like a big bunch of sooky girls over it like they have........
i dont want the bloody cops harassing me all the time. maybe i should go for some 32" a little bit better centre of gravity... is that just as much work.
what about.
gearing in transfer case.
2inch body lifft.
fix front sagging leafs
and new rims cause mine have go crappy offset.
32" tyres.
whatya think??

Well I think 34 is a tad too small, but either way, Generally, Cops in QLD are red hot on "big" tyres on 4WD's.
30" is about as bif as you're going to get away with if you're driving it around town regularly in QLD, I think.

have you thought about shaving your diff?
i havent had any experience on this, but, in theory, if you cut out an inch off the bottom of your diff, you will be getting the same benefits as running a 2" bigger tyre than what you have.
i.e every 2 inches you go bigger on your tyres, you only gain an inch under your diff.
can someone with actual proper knowledge on this either confirm or deny that this will work.

It will work, and careful attention to lots of other issues like spring plate clearance, shock mounts, gearbox crossmembers etc can achieve lots of gains when you are tyre limited.
EG - a 2" transfer case lift will allow modification of the gearbx crossmember to run a flat belly pan.
Spring plates like Twisty's 40 series (see his build thread in Members) will clean up this area.
It's worth remembering that sierra's often don't need the large footprint a big tyre permits- In fact, they often perform worse, especially with a 10.5 or 12.5" tyre because ground pressure gets too low, so there is definitely a case for a smaller tyre and clearance gained elsewhere creating a nice outcome, especially where you run the risk of hassles from police.

I lurv my 235/85r16 (32/9.5R16) which I've fitted with only guard chopping and a 1/2 Ruf and I reckon I could easily fit 33/12.5 on too because I did cut out a large amount. To me it doesn't look very obvious that it's got very large tyres because of the tyre width, lack of any type of lift and the 16 inch rims kind of helps disguise the size.
Also I'm on the skinny tyre side of tyre width debate because of how they dig in for grip instead of floating in mud and other slippery/loose surfaces. Also less weight and leverage to help bust up CV's on the skinnys too

More Suzuki parts going to the big Suzuki Heaven in the sky!
33x12.5s on a zook makes steering on a stock ( non power steer zook ) pretty tough work at low speeds such as rocks etc i had the tyres from my cruiser on for a day for a test and hated it, i also reckon a skinny tyre goes better , i have just got 7.5x16s they are actually 8.5 wide and 32.5 high and i reckon they go good and there not that obvious with wider diffs under the car
