vitara rear fuel jerry holder

if its easy enought to do i wouldnt mind putting a jerry can holder on the back of my vitara. i sat down behind the car and had a good think about it and for the life of me couldnt think of something easy. i dont really want to change/make the whole bar as that is getting too much work and $$$ just to hold a jerry that ill ocasionally use. if anyone has some ideas and photos of what they done that might give me ideas. maybe a design to hold on where the tow bar screws into??? thought id ask just incase. thanks

if i am going some where i need jerry cans
i take my trailer. has racks for 6x20 ltr on the drawbar
and another 3x20 down each side.
if you only need one put it in the car and carry spare seals.

Have a look at some other 4wds at the wreckers that had jerry can holders on separate brackets. I picked up a sturdy unit for $20 which was from an old Pajero. I think MK Patrols had them too.

Also (for touring) think of putting the spare on the roof (or inside) and mount a jerry can holder where the spare was, should be similar weights. Might get away with 2 jerry's side-by side. One for fuel, one for water.

...as this said, it may be illegal to have fuel on the back (but OK on the roof? I would rather 20L of flammable liquid on the back than the roof)

Found this, would be easy to make a bracket for this where the spare went:

Think I will weigh my spare when I get a chance. I am interested in carrying a water container on the back with a tap - very useful while camping.

Wouldn't recommend the spare up top.... play merry hell with CoG on a Suzuki...

contact tyre supplier, or even website, they can usually tell you the "new" weight of your tyre, then add your rim.

Note it's also not recommended (possibly illegal??) to have fuel jerries in the cabin space.

Yeah, I was thinking more about a GV which has the wider track and lower COG.

The fuel thing is something I need to think about for the next Cape trip but I found planety of places to fill up last time, although I had a larger tank in the Patrol.

My Holden Drover softop, is in fact registered as a Ute, so truthfully, im not carrying fuel in the cab, its in the back of the ute, hehe.

there are brackets that you can buy that bolt on with your spear wheel but they seem hard to find i have been looking for a while but i no there out there

after thinking about it some more i think its easiest to buy small trailer and make a few jerry holders on it or a crate on the roof racks with holders on it or 1 jerry in the boot if a small trip. i need the spare wheel there. it be right for a while yet.
