Hi all

I have just spent $5950.00 on a complete spring lift 5"
And when the rear tyres drop out on the shocks the stroke of the shock is to long or the coil is to short and the coils fall out.

Was told by the supplier that it had been installed incorrectly (over the phone),
So asked were to take it to have it inspected by someone of there choice
So after more $ ($137.50) for it to be checked and have him tell me that
Quote; "the springs are to short or the shock is too long" end quote

Called them back and told them the results, they proceeded to try and tell me that it wouldn’t be a problem as the rear wheels would have to come off the ground for the coils to come out, and that shouldn’t happen
So I asked if they had been 4wding before assuming they had, as this is a company that sells set ups for comp trucks.

Now I have emailed them with all these comments three days ago and haven’t heard a word from them since.

What would you do?

:shock: fix it yourself? spring retainers/coil drop outs/limiting straps. I would expect an EXCEPTIONAL kit for $6k.

Sounds like a dodgy company. Name and Shame i say.

Dude...you need to take some responsibility for this too. You are a member of this forum and you can't figure out to retain the coils or build some dislocation cones?

Did you search for info on lifts for Patrols?

Did you ask any questions on which products/people/places to use?

Sorry mate...but harden up and build, or have made, a retaining device or cones and wheel the fawker.

Time to lose the nappies.

True, but to charge 6k and the kit not to be perfect and to have such lame support.... I'm all for name and shame too. Not a preferred company or product to be involved with obviously.

Get your hand off it... for that money it should all bolt in without a hitch and include all the extras.

Plus, when he complained they didn't say "oh, you need a retainer" they said, "oh, you must have fitted it wrong." Not good enough!

I didn't say it was ALL his fault...I said that he needed to take some responsibility, too.

Would you spend nearly $6k and not research what you are getting? Obviously the shop saw him coming from 20 miles away and he has been arse raped on this deal, but really...5" lifts have been done to death on Nissans. One question BEFORE he bought would have saved a shitload of heartache.

As for saying you would not have a problem as long as the wheels do not leave the ground. So what happens if you should jump the 4by ? The springs fall out before landing ?
I'm asuming that the kit inclueded adjustable suspension arms, are they adjusted correctly, you could have the axle at an odd angel so as that springs do not sit straight hence falling out.

If i spent 6g on a lift i would expect it to be perfect and if the coils and shocks don't match then retainers should have been supplied with the kit.

For that sort of money the kit should have been bolt it and complete.

he spent extra money to get someone to say the same thing, and they suggest that the wheel will never leave the ground? That statement alone would have the company lose all credibility.

Thier 5" lift kit is obviously a toorak tractor look at me kit designed for weeling the speed bumps at the macca's carpark.

I am still pursuing it with them because I have seen their gear and it is good stuff.

They just tried to blow me off so they could wash their hands of it
BUT THATS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!

And yes it is all adjusted correctly had it checked twice
And every thing is completely adjustable

Also I spent the better part of 6 months researching what to put in
I am just being given a pathetic run around that’s all
This thread is just to let people know to be careful and to know were they stand and when someone try’s to pull the wool over there eyes and tell them that is how it is, you can call there bluff and have it corrected.
But only if you know for a fact that what they are trying to spin is bull s@#t

Oh by the way I didn’t fit the kit I payed to have it fitted, and the bloke that fitted it for me wiped his hands of it to (you know who you are)
So now I am trying to deal directly with the supplier and that’s what is making it difficult

Know I have a general opinion that this should be fixed and I don’t need my nappy changed ;) I will pursue this and let you all know how I go

I think i know about this one via someone else.

Sounds to me like the kit was fairly comprehensive (hence the price tag) which is normally good since most people just bang in shocks and springs and think thats how you lift a car, without looking at ALL the other stuff that it will affect.

IF the fitter (IF!!!) fitted what came with the kit and it's doing this then it should come back on the supplier. You've paid money for a full kit, that should work with no hassles. If you went and sourced and fitted all the parts separately then had dramas then i would say you're on your own. But a complete supplied kit should work with no hassles, and lets face it, it's not hard to fit the kind of components that this kit would have.

DO NOT name and shame on this board. As much as i would want to in your position and they probably deserve it, it will have ramifications for Ruff and it will get locked/deleted. If people want info they should PM you.

I feel for you man, i do. Make sure you tell the supplier that you won't take this crap lying down and will tell EVERYONE you come into contact with about it unless it is fixed.

when you jump the axle drops evenly and wont let the coil fall out as the shocks are mounted in such a way that it is less distance for the tyre straight down than when flexed, it doesnt have the extra leverage of the one side flex droop.

did you flex it on a flex ramp or offroad? sometimes car flex even further in some offroad situations just incase you just did it on a ramp.

was it a "flex" kit? they could hve something to do with the long shocks. other than that get some HD hose clamps on the top of the springs and some 8mm flat bar bolted onto the bottom to hold the springs in position.

Yes, pics will help. No need to threaten bad word of mouth, dept of fair trading is enough. An item (suspension kit) that is bought for a specific perpose must full fill its perpose or your intittled to your money back.

A KIT should be complete, if it is a "FLEX" kit it should have location cones and retainer plates supplied. A "KIT" is that, a bunch of components you sorce is your responsability to make work.

$6k :shock: its a patrol FFS. Would want to have some flash gear in it.

There are kits upto $10k if you wish to dish out the bux..

but $6k, you should be able to get a drive in/drive out kit fitted.

as said, the cat MAYBE out of the bag, but dont go shittin on people yet. hey MAY have gone with that kit, or changed his mind another 20 times since that thread.

ANd if it is that kit, those blokes are on here and will see it.. Naming them wont achieve anything for the dude tryin to get this sorted.

He said that he is no longer dealing with the installer and now going directly to the manufacturer. So from that even if he did go with the above list it is not Superior Eng. that has been giving him the run around.

The whole name and shame game on the internet should only be after the fitter has blown you off and you have made an effort to let them resolve the issue (like dealing with a Nissan dealer). Which it sounds like they have so maybe send them a PM saying that if they do not resolve the issue you will name them? Bad mouthing them will not get you ride fixed.

But I know where you are coming from, have a friend that had lift installed by a company that frequents this board and he spent big dollars with new tires and the like on this companies recommendations. Drove it home with positive camber on the front and it now handles like crap. He didn't know much and went to someone that managed to convince him they where experts in 4WDing.
