Got the mrs a 92 jlx swb vitara to run around in (cause we dont own enough suzuki's) to do some longer trips as the stockman has been killing me lately. Took it out for a test in some sand today and no 4x4.
The rear is spinning but neither of the fronts are. I am assuming this is a hub issue and was just wondering if sierra hubs share any parts or are the same as the vitara.
I have a set of my 96 w/t stockman laying round and did a search and found some goofball saying they are the same wtf? is this correct ?
if anyones got a spare set in perth that would help too
cheers mick

VITARA hub problem
they lock easily enough, its just that they are not working i have no drive to the front wheels at all. I know there is a spring that snaps often in sierra hubs i expect this may be the prob. I dont know anywhere in prth that sells just the spring so i have to buy the whole assembly.
The transfer is engaging cause the front shaft locks when 4x4 is selected so its either diff or hubs

swapped auto unlockers off my late model vitara & rebuild some early model manual hubs. they are easy to pull down & clean & rebuild. i found find this link handy.

cheers that link is good i know they are easy to pull apart and clean, i just think that the spring may be broken so i dont want to pull apart till i have a replacement, they both feel like they are well greased and turn easily.
Really i want to know if sierra hubs or part of the hub will interchange with the vitara hub.

i think the aisin hubs insides are all the same, i grabbed the guts out of some toyota ones as spares.

we have stripped and rebuilt 2 sets of vitara hubs this week,
we found that both cars the hubs had signs of moisture inside, and the ring that locks the hub had seized, but you could still turn from lock to free no problems, we pulled them off, stripped them down, soaked in petrol, wire brushed them, ran a file accross them and greased and rebuilt, they work much better,

there was a lot of rust inside them and the spring in one had corroded through and snapped.
SEIRRA HUBS ARE A STRAIGHT SWAP seeing as there was no mention in the bible. The metal sierra ones look a bit more robust anyway. The vitara ones had a plastic outer. Just tested it out they lock and disengage perfect and smooth, i did grease em up good so they wont seize in a hurry. Suprised at how much power and how much better in the sand the vitara is than my previous sierras, that little baastard goes anywhere, now if i could just fix that clearance issue well be sorted
