ive got a fuel tank i want to modify, just want to know if there is anyone on sunny coast or brisbane that cleans them so there safe to weld? and rough prices would be good?
ive read all the backyard remidies, but i dont really want to risk it, i dont like pain
I used to weld tanks for brown davis
part of our job was to weld up the half tanks in LPG fitted sedans etc.
we used to cut and weld then still wet with petrol by filling the tank with carbon dioxide.
it was feed into all our welding bays and all you did was put the co2 hose in the tank and leave it flow slowly throughout the cutting and welding process.
Ive done it before using argon on the mig and then sealing the tank with tape.
You MUST however make sure that the inert gas you use replaces ALL the oxygen in the tank Co2 is better as it is heavier the oxygen so it pushes the o2 out.
I dont recommend you do this unless you are very carefull that you do it right. And please don't kill yourself for the sake of paying someone else to do it for you if your not capable.
cheers andrew
