MK petrol 5 speed gearbox

Post by disturbedMQ »

G'day all I'm new to this forum a mate and i are both doing up our mq/mk patrols mine's a sd33t shorty and his ia l28 lwb, we are struggling to find a 5 speed box for his lwb hopeing someone out there has one as so far we've had no luck and i'm starting to think they no longer exsist. He's just done a straight gas turbo conversion and rebuild but the auto is never going to allow it's full potential before it go's bang any help will be greatlly appriciated.

Thanks

MQ

Mate the 5speeds do exsist. but are getting harder to get a hold of let alone a good one. All boxes are the same between petrol and diesel, just as stroked said all that needs to be changed is the input shaft and bellhousing.
The nissan cabstar has the same box aswell,, lower 1st ratio good for wheeling, still has overdriveas well. But hard to get and need to fit the transfer case to them as they are from a 2wd small truck

You will come across a 5speed when u least expect,, (and dont have the money) If going to the wreckers you will pay upto $1300, this is what i did but in saying that it was only recently rebuilt before the wreckers got it.

Chuck in the 4speed to replace the auto and run 35's that should see some better fuel economy.

Hope this helps

Cheers
