I was wondering why cant i find one single cabstar 3.0td engine conversion on google or anywhere!!
Around here (Portugal) they are very much used in comp rigs, specialy in place of the GR's RD28T...
They are small, light, compact, resistant and allows major tuning becoming a huge torque beast at low revs....
Are we the only shmucks aroud using this engine ??
afaik the cabstar motor is the ZD30 which has a big history of blowing up, most are fitting the old more reliable 4.2 rather than the other way around. plus the ZD30 is more costly to fit, cost more to get the power out of it. why bother when the 4.2 will do the job at a cheaper price.
Our Navs with the conventional turbo sound fairly similar to the patrol version, except less funky noises from the exhaust (and of course less melting )
I know you cant really compare exhaust notes, especially with video/sound compression on youtube vids but the scream of a tradie thrashing his ZD30 Nav is a prettty common one here in Brissy and you can definately tell when a ZD30 is headed towards or away from you. Very, very distinctive howl.
i don't know the ED33 at all but i know the earlier ones ran TD series 4cyls. we get them here more commonly under the atlas name.
the other thing to keep in mind is some overseas markets use locally made motors. i have seen pics of a "locally made" copy of a ford powerstroke which nissan fitted to its navara range.
a quick look shows ED33 is mid '80's motor (there is turbo version), then TD series and then a FD42 (4cyl 4.2litre ,about same power as TD42).
eduardo may have to find out exactly what motor they are useing.
The engine is a BD30T....not very powerfull in standard features, but alows major injection/turbo tuning becoming a torque beast (not much hp's thow)....
Other engine very much used (and abused) around here is 15BF-T
P.S. there are no td42 around here, only SD33, RD28T, ZD30 and the 2.7 4cil. from mavericks / terranos and some patrols...
V8's.....their a mirage in southern/western europe
If you're after a TD42, have a look in the UK. They're plentyful there and are cheap right now due to the new road tax system over there. A 4.2 GQ usually goes for less than 4k€ as a complete driveable car. Just picked up a '95 Maverick for 300€
There are some videos on google.video under patrol cabstar tag, all off them portuguese....and that's it .... nobody seem to use them in conversions, thei'r a perfect match to patrol 2.7 4cil. gearbox.... they can easyly be powered up to +50% off their original power....
