351 c6 into gq/mav
351 c6 into gq/mav
g'day all, new to forum and to fwds. am buying a 91 maverick this week. my brother has been kind enough to donate the 351/c6 out of his f100 4wd ambo. the dilema i have is the box/transfer case setup. i want to run an auto but do i try to adapt the c6 to the patrol transfer as the ford case brings the tailshaft out on the wrong side, or look at a patrol auto adapted to the 351, the motor will be stroked to 383 and mildly worked, using desktop dyno we calculated that on gas it will have 330hp, 414nm torque. as im new to 4x4ing i dont see it getting a hard time in the bush but will be towing vehicles behind it. was hoping some of the more experianced blokes here could point me in the right direction, have researched the net and cant find any info on ford motor or box adaptor kits. cheers rick

Engine to std 5 speed. Don't know about your C6.
If you've got the engine for free, and the current engine is shagged, is a swap of convenience. If not, WHY?
Also, think about your carb, particularly if you plan on doing any steep ascents/descents. Apparently holley's are crap for this and I don't know about the std carb. LPG may solve the poblem, but I'm sure someone has the answer
Welcome to the forum too, you'll find it very helpful and you'll learn alot.
Alstonville!! My grandies came from there! I used to go there every year to visit. Last time I was there was about 1984 and it was a beautiful, quiet little town.

am doing motor because i do a lot of heavy towing and in the past found anything under 5ltrs wears out to quick, the 351 has 46,000 origonal kms on it so its not shagged, but a rebuild kit is the same price as the stroker kit, so why not, i'll be running straight gas, defenitely want an auto for long trips, cruise control and stopping and starting wears you out with a manual, cheers for the welcome, my brother told me about this site ages ago but i haven't been into fwds, for too long, prefered fast cars and bikes, from what i've read there is some very knowledgable people here, i hope to learn lots from them.
i'm 4th generation here at alstonville, it was great in the 80's however the sea changers found out about it now its full of cockheads. the 4wd club is still going strong though

Have you taken into acount that you will lose about 30 - 35% power through the 4x4 drive line, depending on tyres!! And running gas is a good idea as you wont need to run a purg tank for steep hills (BUT GET A GOOD SET UP AND MIXER!!). Go the stock auto in my opinion. They are pretty tuff...
Welcome and goodluck

I had a 351c - c4 - hilux transfer in a 45 series years ago, went well, The look of the guys faces in there 75s & 80s as i passed them going up hills on the highway was priceless.
Carby wise I had best results with 750 carter AFB competition series. The fuel bowls are on the sides of the carby. (instead of front / back witch makes them far better going up / down hills)

i've found a worked patrol box on ebay, 180321728094,
just not sure of the price, it only cost me $2800 to get a t700 built for 800hp, but then again i dont have any knowledge on these vehicles, what do you guys reckon?
brothers got a few spare hilus transfers so that might be an option, he also has a 302w c4 out of a landcruiser 45 that might fit. got a lot of homework to do.
appreciate the advice to guys, most forums if your lucky enough for someone to answer its just to insult you somehow, cheers
